Sony A6000

I just saw that the Sony a7000 seems to have been rumoured for some time as well but nothing to show for it except rumours? I wonder if it will come and if it will have IBIS.

Probably, it will likely also come with at least an £800 price tag. Need to remember when looking at performance figures of the 16-50 that its a kit lens, of course it will be average.

Indeed. The current cashback deal is good.

What about the 16-70 f/4. Again, mixed reviews on that from googling forums/review sites. Pricey too.

However I do question if is good value against the Sony 50mm 1.8 which is about 1/3 rd the price ?

I've owned both and while the 50/1.8 is a very decent lens, to my eyes, the 55/1.8 is spectacular and worth the extra.

Yes, very mixed, its a Zeiss lens Id personally avoid, much like the FE 24-70. The 18-105 is supposed to be very good, if you want an all rounder. The 24 Zeiss, 35 OSS and 50 OSS are brilliant lenses.

I find the 16-50 perfectly fine for what it is, pretty decent in the center actually.

Is there anywhere which shows a comparison with images between the Sony 50mm and the Zeiss 55mm?

I notice there is cashback on the lenses too. Hmm.... The a6000 looks extremely tempting. I've been looking to move to APS-C mirrorless and I'm between Fuji X-T10 vs A6000. The A6000 appeals for price + great sensor + video. The 35 and 50 primes are reasonably priced and have stabilization whilst not being too large. The X-T10 appears to win out on controls (dials and dedicated apeture rings on primes) but the video is apparently not great. The one thing it does have which no other manufacturer can say, is a very decent kit lens with the 18-55 f/2.8-4. The X-trans sensor seems to have mixed feelings on. Some report smearing problems with foliage and plasticy/wax like skin appearances. On the other hand the Fuji sensor produces nice colours.

As for Auto Focus...I do depend on this in certain circumstances shooting kids moving. On that basis I gather the a6000 wins.

Getting the most out of the focusing speed I've found depends on two key factors, using the right focusing settings for the situating , ie can't just rely on single spot because sometimes multi does a better job as it let's the camera do the work when it comes to tracking and the other thing is the lens focus speed. The latter is where I think improvements still need to be made and I find more often than not it's the lens focusing speed which is the restriction.

What lenses specifically? I'd like to hear experiences and thoughts with any Sony lenses anyone has tried on the A6000 in terms of IQ and focus speed. I always find myself (despite owning primes) requiring the need to use a zoom for certain days out where prime swapping is not feasible, therefore I need to be sure the 16-50 or 18-55 is good enough to start with as I can't see any other zooms in this range apart from the 16-70 which is over priced.

Havent had issues with my kit lens, 35 or 50 OSS. Even video tracking is fast. What camera do you have now?

I naturally always shoot with my left eye, so was wondering what this would be like with the A6000. Is it doable, or designed only for right eye use?

I think you need to get to a shop and try the camera for yourself.

I'm sure non of the lenses have ultra sonic ability. I think they use a stepping kind which is great for video. The 70-200mm has dual motors though which I believe makes a good difference .

Sorry for the numpty question. Does it vary from zoom lens to zoom on the a6000 as to whether they focus by button or from turning the lens barrel. I always find button or switch zooms very slow.

I don't think it matters but is more a feature of a lens itself if it has it regardless of being a prime or zoom .

Switch zooms all have barrel zoom AFAIK.

I have the A6000 and mainly use it with a 35mm to give me the 50mm ish aspect. Really like it but in higher Iso it does have some noise.

Thanks Paul that's helpful

A6000 and 16-70mm f4 arrived today. Impressed so far, it's going to be a handy backup to the A7R.

The A6000 looks very tempting now with £100 cash back. I have the RX100m3 and really happy with the output compared to my other camera Fuji Xe1 . Handled the A6000 in the shop and like the size and ergonomics too. Is the output from A6000 with kit lens a Hugh improvement over the RX100m3?

Has anyone bought a second hand Sony 35mm f/1.8 lens? Any ideas on what is a reasonable price to pay for one? Looking to replace my kit lens with this for indoor/low light photography.

I am a left eye dominant person, and have no problem with the A6000.

Probably around 220-230 if boxed and mint. Its a fantastic lens.

Hey all, just wondering what you moved to the a6000 from.
I'm using a NEX 5T currently and looking for the next step; sound like a sensible move? or not enough of an improvement.

Its a huge improvement. Especially in AF.

I agree with Twist. I've shot with an Nex5 as my only digital kit for a few years along with film kit. The A6000 delivers much faster/accurate AF, low light performance as well as the EVF.

I upgraded from a Nex 5. I mainly use it for indoor photography and the low light and focusing is much improved. It was worthwhile upgrade, even more so with the cashback deals that just ended recently.

Love my a6000 handy camera to carry around with me. I also have the zoom lens for it got it with the cashback

My A6000 took great photos when paired with the 16-70 F4, then I traded the lens as part of swapping my kit around and I still regret getting rid of it to this day. It was bright, sharp and clear and I much preferred the traditional zoom to the power zoom of the kit lens.

I've since had the chance to compare to the X-T1 and whilst I prefer the ergonomics of the Fuji the Sony wins hands down for fast and accurate autofocus.

Quick question which may have a simple answer that I'm just missing?

I have the AEL button setup for back button focus, on my Canon a half press of the shutter would lock exposure I can't seem to figure out how to lock the exposure on my Sony. Any ideas?

I only shoot with my left eye, no problems for me.
