I bought my Sony A57 in June 2012 and have been very happy with it generally; however, it has developed a problem fairly recently. Basically, it doesn't seem to start up fully. It shows part of the on screen display but not the rest, it won't autofocus, it won't adjust to light and none of the menus work. However, the strange thing is, you can get it to work temporarily by simply bashing the bottom of the camera. This isn't good enough however, and it always goes again at some point. I've posted a video to illustrate my point (apologies for the lighting/focus). Does anyone know of an easy fix for this, or will I need to send it off for repair? I'm assuming it has at least a 3 year warranty, but don't know for certain. Also, does anyone have any experience with Sony for camera returns/repairs?

Thanks

Yeah, loose connections is my thought, given that banging it seems to make it work. Very annoying; hoping it's under warranty although I can't seem to find a mention of the warranty period anywhere. Anyone know the best way to go about reporting it to Sony? I've found a section to book a repair, but not sure if I should email first for confirmation.

London Camera Exchange in Colchester. I've just looked into it a bit more, and it just has a 1 year warranty. Balls. I think it may actually be a slightly dodgy lens contact which is the problem. I took the lens off, pressed them all down and tried to wipe them and now it seems to be fine. It's annoying though as I'll now never have full confidence in this camera's reliability. At least I still have my old A200 though, I think I'll take that along with me as a spare body whenever I go on holiday now.

On the offchance someone reading this knows of one, does anyone know of a good camera repair shop in the Essex area (preferably north Essex). If it breaks again (fingers crossed, seems fine now), especially if I'm out taking photos, I want to be able to take it somewhere in person. I hate sending items of this value through the post.
