Sony A200 - Second Lens Purchase - Advice Please

Hi All,

I am new to the world of DSLR cameras, just bought my first one a month ago, a Sony A200

Anyway I am looking at buying a second lens and am looking for some advise from all of you pros out there.

Which out of the following 2 lenses would you say is the best?

Sony Alpha 75-300mm F4.5-5.6 Lens

Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens - Sony/Minolta Fit

are you looking for a lens with a better reach then your current lens ?

If so i would go for the ony one.

I would also consider the Minolta 70-210 (beercan).A cracking lens

Thanks for the recommendation, I am really only looking at the above two lenses though.

Apart from the price what is the difference between the two lenses?

Are they both as good as each other?

I am very new to all of this and on a limited budget so the Tamron one does appeal price wise

okay,i've had the sony 75-300 lens,and it does a great job for the money IMO.

i've no experience of the tamron lens though,so cannot give you any help there,but if you introduce yourself on this thread..

also another vote for the beercan if 210mm of reach is enough for you.

Have a look over on Dyxum, these are user reviews and sample images of the 2 lenses. The Tamron gets a slightly better score.

I've just been through a similar decision but managed to get a Beercan lens it really is a cracking lens, theres a good Tamron 55-200mm lens for £59.99 from College Cameras but it depends what range you are looking for,

I have the Sony 75-300 lens for my Sony A350 (it same fitment etc) and I cannot fault it.

I chose the Sony lens as I would like to stick with the orginal equipment etc for my camera and its the dogs nuts.

If you could afford/justify it (~£550) the 70-300mm G SSM is the best 70/75-300mm for the system (indeed it's probably best in class for any system).
I'm assuming of course that you have thought about what you really feel that you need & that 70/75-300mm is it.
