Hi guys.

Had this camera for a while. My problem is that when using it. sometimes it locks me out of all the menues. so can't change any function setting or even look at the pictures i have taken. i can still take pictures with it etc.

anyone else had this problem and know if its an easy fix or not?

thanks

James

Hi James,

What version of the firmware is your a100 running?

What battery are you using also?

Cheers

Stephen

my a100 is currently running 1.02. i have just tried twice to update it to 1.04 from sony support. but it still remains at 1.02 after both attempts.

battery as a proper sony np-fm55h

Never had a problem like that in my Alpha cameras (350,700,900). Is there any help if you turn off and turn on again after your menu freeze?

*** i mean is i can take pictures using the camera, but cannot even get into the funtion settings, to view my previous pics taken, change settings. turnign it off doesn't help.

just have to sorta keep trying withit then it lets you in. didn't know if it was somethign silly likes it doing something at the time. but its no got the writing led illuminated. its just rather annoying.

It sounds to me like your firmware has become corrupted during one of the attempted upgrades to v1.04.

Best suggestion really would be to get it serviced as I doubt there is a home user fix for this one other than trying to get the firmware to successfully install.

it was doing it long before i tried to upgrade the firmware. the strange thing is that it is imtermitant. and i don't know what causes it?

Hhhmmm stranger and stranger......have you tried some compressed air to blow the contacts clean? Might be that one of the buttons is sticking and causing the camera to hang?

I would get it serviced anyways as it must be a couple of years old now and could likely do with a clean and spruce up.

Someone else had something similar. I think their issue was something like the display button was accidentally knocked so it switched off the rear lcd. I'd try pressing the display button on the off chance. Also if you have eye start on then that can make the lcd go off as it switches it off when it thinks you're near the view finder.

If it isn't because of either of the above then taking it for a service and a firmware upgrade is the most sensible next step.

hmm. i wonder if that could be it. that i have eye start on.

just outta curiousty. anyone know how much it is for a service.
