Picture the scene.
Last night off to bed.
Reading kindle then lights out.
Wife: Goodnight
Me: Goodnight

Wife: Nudge - meant to have told you, a parcel was delivered to you today.
Me: WHAT???
Jumps out of bed only to find the 200-600 had been delivered.
Unboxed it and put it on the a7r3
Beautiful lens but what a fkn weight!!!
Think I'd struggle hand holding this combination all day

So some questions to those who have this lens
1. Do you use a support for this lens ie monopod?
2. What do you use to carry the lens around - meaning strap as I have more camera bags than the wife has handbags and thats a lot!!
3. Thinking of getting a camo cover for it - any suggestions?
4. Any body building courses available? :LOL:

Any other tips gratefully accepted ;)

I use a Q strap to carry mines.
I tried a monopod but didn't like it.
Although it's heavy, I have better hand held results than I ever got using my D7000 and sigma 150-600mm.
I bought a camouflage cover from outdoor photography gear. and its great.

I had one of those Q straps for my Panny G5 years ago.
Not sure if I'd trust the weight of the Sony gear on it though.
Obviously it works for you so I may have had a lighterwieght version.
I'll have a look ;)

It might not be a Q strap.
It was a member on here that sold them for a while.
It holds the weight no problem.
I do also support ir a bit with the lens foot so it's not swinging about wildly....
I did add a keyring type ring as a bit of a safety thing incase the connector broke though....20210313_094938.jpg
 
I use a Blackrapid Sport Breathe on my similar weighty 3kg set-up, the shoulder pad is wide and breathable which allows you to wear it all day without any bother.

The only thing I would say against a strap like this is it tends to bump your leg when you walk, I rest my hand on the tripod foot to stop it moving around which I find works a treet but it may annoy some.

Yes, I'd imagine that would quite uncomfortable.

The peak design slide looks good and is pretty versatile.
Bit dearer though....
My Q strap is still going strong. There have been reports of strap threads etc breaking and the metal connector separating but I check mines carefully and it's fine.
The peak design slide does appeal though....

Definately!!
I have a Smallrig L Bracket fitted to the a7iii (now on the a7riii) and my a6600.
Makes a great difference to the handling ;)
 
I have the Peak Design Slide attached to the lugs on my 200-600 and it works well with the body/lens resting on my right hip. One thing to watch is that the buckles on the strap don't rub on the base of the camera.
I got round this by initially using a battery grip but now use the Smallrig L bracket like you do, a much better solution.

I usually use this combination on a monopod with a good strong head. This is not really because the combination is heavy (it is :D) but it saves holding it at shoulder level just to get that BIF that zooms in unannounced, having it on the monopod already at eye level can make the difference in grabbing the shot or missing it.

This may be the one.

They are really good quality, Arca Swiss compatible and makes it easy to tie a peak design anchor to it.

I use it myself with peak design slide like a sling across my should for carrying. Its a LOT more comfortable to carry it this way when the you are slinging from the lens' foot instead of the camera body.
Sometime I use a monopod too in which case the replacement tripod foot easily latches on unlike sony one.

its ok-ish, and does the job fairly well. good for the price though (you will have to scroll down a bit to find sony 200-600 or just search for it on your browser)

The lens does take some getting used to but this lens is one of the main reasons to shoot with Sony.

Hi I use it on a monopod and turn off steady shot if hand held I use mode 1 steady shot for static shots and mode 2 for panning its a great lens for the cost, and I dont think its that heavy but I am used to the 300 2.8 on the 99ii or adaptor on the a series. I think you will really like this lens when it dialed in
 
another vote for black rapid used them for years quality is excellent
its like your lens quality you only get what you pay for

1. Do you use a support for this lens ie monopod? I'm a weedy asthmatic old git, (the wrong side of 50), and handhold most of the day. A comfortable strap so you can relax between shots is a big help
2. What do you use to carry the lens around - meaning strap as I have more camera bags than the wife has handbags and that's a lot!! I have a cheap shoulder strap with a ball joint that I got off of Amazon. Made by Focus, works very well hence me being able to use all day without a monopod
3. Thinking of getting a camo cover for it - any suggestions? Been thinking of doing this myself but not got around to it yet
4. Any body building courses available? :LOL: It is quite a lump :)
