Further to my previous posts it seems that my sony 18-70 which got dropped is dead, one of the teeth is missing off the focus assembly and it causes the camera not to know when to stop trying to focus. My new question is, what to replace it with?
I'd like something in a similar quality/budget range. I've had a look on here and on ebay at lenses and there are a wealth of similar minolta lenses on ebay, though very little alpha mount stuff on here. Does anyone have any recommendations, am I best off going with the same Sony 18-70 lens again or are some of the cheaper second hand minolta lenses going be a equal/better choice?

cheers,
Paul

Instead of getting the same lens, go for a sigma, tamron or minolta as a replacement... depending on your budget you might want to look at getting a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 which is a great lens!

Keep your on the sales section on here and keep checking ebay

Do you know what kind of value the Sigma lens has second hand? I had a quick look on google and the new price is a bit beyond my current budget.

cheers,
Paul

If you are on a budget, get one of these. Mine hardly ever left my a200 when I had it.

http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/detail.asp?IDLens=44 It gets a better Dyxum score than the Beercan.

Very good lenses them old metal minolta ones......

My 35-105mm (like your link) was my favourite lens for years until I sold it to chris_m :bang:

There is also a very similar 28-85mm minolta lens which is also very good. I'm looking for one at the right price at the moment but not having much luck :(
