I like the chemistry re-shoot - very atmospheric shot. The ingredients shots are fine, but I think the camera wanted to be closer-in to the subject to make for a more eye-catching composition.

Phil

your indulgence into the dark side has created a great picture Sonia, lots of mystery and atmosphere in the shot. I like the out take too. great effort on the make up effects too.
I agree with Phil with the ingredients, there seems to be a bit too much in the background, maybe a shallower dof would help to bring out the ingredients more. It looks like a tast broth in the making though. Chemistry is wonderful, it fits the theme well and i loive the earthy colours. I looks a tad dark on my screen but if i tilt the laptop i can see it better.

Thanks Phil, yeah I know the ingredients shots are a bit 'Meh' I think if they had just been ordinary 'kitchen' ingredients I would have aimed for something much tighter and shallower Dof but because it was re-enactment food I wanted to give more of a feel of that: including a view of the tents in the background and in the first enough of the couldron to show it's not just a saucepan....must look for more interesting angles next time. It was quite hard with the cauldron one though as standing back to get anything else in lost the ingredients full stop.

Thanks very much :) I actually looked at the Chemistry one on a friends pc yesterday and it does look darker(maybe my monitor is too bright) so thanks for that. I might go and lighten it now and repost.

Catching up here...

Indulgence is great - quite scary! You obviously have a flare for this, and have fun doing the make up.

Ingredients would be better without the background but you don't have a great deal of control in these situations. I think cropping the top off could help. The brew in the hanging pot looks appetising and you have got nice lighting, but I find the hanger think on the right a bit distracting.

Chemistry has good poses and lighting (revised version) and you have caught a nice atmosphere. I find the leaves in the top right corner draw my eye a bit but that is a minor niggle.

Finally - I thought that was a scarecrow but presumably not. Lovely silhouette and colours.

Your indulgence shot is excellent. Yes, it's a bit of a crowbar, but who cares. You are very good at these scary shots.

I also like the lightened version of chemistry. Fits the theme very well. It is a very dramatic shot. You really use a lot of imagination in your shots.

Love the silhouette shot. The colours in the sky are lovely.

Jenny

Ingredients, they are both on theme, but I think there's a bit too much going on in the first and not enough of the ingredients, so the broth works best for me.

Chemistry, the edit is much better... nice bit of chemistry going on... I'm undecided on the processing, although it does make it look warm and lit by a fire so that's good.

I really like the silhouette... nicely done... only slight niggle the end of the tool blends into the tree...

Many thanks Tracey, all points taken on board, I agree about the niggly bits :) The 'scarecrow' is actually our glorious group leader I hijacked him as he was playing mandolin

Thanks very much Jenny for your kind words :)

Thanks John....yes I'm still not quite sure about the processing on chemistry but the original was shot in broad daylight using fill flash so I was trying to bring a bit of sultry atmosphere into it  I'm glad you picked up on my trying to make it look firelight lit though....I guess it worked to some degreee :)

As for the silhouette.....that is exactly my intention when I get around to it...to remove the end of the spear in fact probably both ends so that it just looks like a pole and is separated from the tree  you just confirmed it for me that I need to do this.

Sorry for being really bad and not getting around to commenting or keeping up on the theme this week. Will try to catch up now. :)

I really like your reshoot for Chemistry. Couldn't see it properly yesterday because of the sun on my laptop screen. Now we have some cloud cover I can say I really like it, as well as your processing style.

Ian.

Very nicely done, a real horror movie look to this. good composition and pose.

Very John Carpenter.

Brilliant Sonia.

Love the T&S processing and it works extremely well to isolate the subject.

Ian.

Stop = Very scary :eek::eek:
Isolation. This works for me, I think the colors compliment the BG yellow color.
Nice simple just what one needs.

Allan

Ian.

Thanks very much Allan and Ian :) I was going to put this one in for isolation but then I had the idea for the above

Wow... a couple of excellent images...

Stop very horror... nice bit of PP

Isolation, simple and superbly done. I'm guessing close up/macro of some wood and then insert the children ?

Good use of the tilt and shift effect on Isolation plus the colours work well too. Great idea, well executed.

Hi Sonia catch up time...:D

Curves....Very well framed reflection to show the theme perfectly

Just looked at the new version, better view of the reflection.
Poem....:lol::lol:

Chopped... Good angle to shoot from and the DOF is just right, the B&W works also.

Street....It's a shame about all those bloody street lights, a few would be great but these are like Triffids. The Autumn scene suits this shot perfectly.

Speed....Cracking shot to show children doing what they do best.

Present....Crow bar:D great shot and processing.

People....Hmmmm do you own a time machine ;)

Mechanical...

Mechanical .....does this count??

No it counts as scrap :D The updated shot works better.

Play...The new version is much much better.

Chemistry...Again the second shot is the stronger of the 2.

Candid....Cough...you seem to have a knack of posting your best shot second, the first works more as a portrait than a candid.

Produce...Well it's you first aawww cute, I would just think of it as a wool producer and do not think of the barbeque.

Quad and reshoot...Love the eyes in the first as you can clearly see you taking the shot. The secound quad with the variation in processing of the same shot is excellent.

....and another one for fun :)

quadnose2sm.jpg

Shreks had a BABY :gag:.....:D

Shoot...Very dark and moody.

Single...We seem to have had similar ideas for single. The first one is well caught.

Stare...I think your thread really needs a warning for those with weak hearts....Straight out of a Marilyn Manson/System of a Down video

Peace... That is a very peaceful shot...lovely.

Ingredients...Simple shot for an uninspiring theme.

Chemistry re shoot...Needs a bit of work on th PP but the pose is perfect as you have got it just as the lips touch.

Stop...You have definately got a style to your shooting, my daughter would love your shots as she is a horror film fan.

Isolation...Another great idea with just the right processing.

Phew...breath...on to the next thread.

I love the isolation shot - the depth of field is just perfect!

Stop - yes, that would certainly cause me to do an about turn!

Isolation - very clever and works wonderfully well.

Wow !!!! You've been busy with your catch up and I absolutely LOVE the stuff that you're doing lately.

Ingredients : I take the point that the others made about the busy b/g, but I actually quite like it. I'm guessing that this was taken at one of the re-enactments and I think the b/g gives it some nice context.

Reshoot for chemistry : Lovely sensitive shot, and on my monitor the original actually looks better (although I know that my lappy screen is a bit on the bright side)
I love the composition and whatever PP you've used gives it an almost painted feel.

Stop : Superb.
I can see this on a poster for a horror film. Brilliant PP once again and this stands out from your other "dark" shots for me in that there's more of a sense of realism to it.
I can almost believe in this one

Isolation : Very, very effective and very well put together.
I like the tilt shift feel to it with the extreme DoF, but the transition from OOF to in focus is just a touch too abrupt for me (and I really do mean just a touch)
The PP on the girls is spot on though. I take it that you painted the shadow in ????? It looks very, very natural.

And I'm with you on liking the scarecrow shot. I'm not sure where it fits with the themes, but I really don't care.

Yup and

Thanks so much for taking the time to wade through this lot...much appreciated!

Thanks very much Sarah great detailed feedback as always(puts me to shame!) Yeah I wasn't sure if the dof was a little too shallow on isolation, and yes I did add the shadow so I'm glad you think it looks natural :)

The scarecrow doesn't fit the themes at all I was just indulging myself again

Well here are a couple of choices for quality...neither terribly inspiring. I would have liked to have got along to a dressage competion and got a very close crop on the rider/horses neck but wan't gonna happen so hey ho!

A friend asked if I could take some pics for her sister to show the 'Quality' of what she had been knitting so I guess the first one fits the theme ok.

knitwear0331.jpg

the second is just a flower shot, showing a 'Quality' poppy

Love the baby pic for this weeks theme.
Nice and sharp and well lit.

Sonia, your 52 goes from strength to strength, and I love the pping you've been doing lately - very stylish and atmospheric.

Isolation: I like the idea and compostion here, but do agree that dof is just a tad abrupt. Fantastic, on-theme shot, though.

The other isolation shot is lovely - the black background works well and I like the composition. I don't think it says Isolation quite as well as the first one, but it's an excellent shot.

Quality: #1 is a stunner. Even the colour of the hat enhances his eye colour! The light is beautiful, and I love the tight crop, the expression and the detail in the knitted items.:clap::clap:

I like the Quality Poppy - the detail is excellent and the colour beautiful, but #1 is, for me, in a different league.

Jean

Cute baby pic - really well done in terms of sharpness, dof & pose. There is a very slight shadow from the hat across half the eyes - this could easily be sorted out in PP.

I like the colours in the poppy but the composition doesn't quite do it for me - I think I'd like to have seen the whole flower.

Phil

Sonia, love the baby shot, it works very well, and the hat looks a quality one at that. The poppy looks a bit past it, so possibly a no longer quality poppy ;)

Two very well-crowbarred shots for 'quality'

They're both great, the poppy shot is actually my favourite, love the composition and depth of field, but I agree it's looking a bit past it for it to be properly 'quality' ;)

The baby shot is excellent too though

Chris

Hi Sonia, love the lighting on your first shot - it's quality! Eyes are very sharp and cannot fault the image in any way - a perfect portrait.
Not sure about the flower shot though - could have done with being a bit sharper me thinks.
