Hi guys,

My band and I are taking a break from gigging until early next year and its a great chance to bring 5 or 6 new songs into the set. We are old skool rock and our set consists of AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, ZZ Top etal. The most recent tune we do is Summer of 69, albeit a metal version.

So can people list ideas/songs that they may like to hear, I was thinking about recent belters such as

Vertigo / U2

Feeder / Buck Rodgers

not classics but good pub music!

I want to start playing more up to date stuff as we get lots of requests but my mind tends to go blank when trying to draft a set.....

Thanks

Muse - Knights of Cydonia :)

A recent song that I love is 'Valerie' by The Zutons. You could make it as rock as you want - it's a great tune.

How about some Red Hot Chili Peppers?

How recent are you thinking?

Pink Floyd - Money, always good to jam to. stear clear of any of the slower stuff though, lol

edit - new stuff.....

erm......
errrrr....

Place Your Hands ... Reef

Ive spent many nights in Broad St Aussie bar with bands knocking out rock renditions, but cant think off the top of my head though ... hmmm wonder why my memory is so fogged ;)
Ill have a think!

Beat For Silver by Raging Slab - kicks major ass

Foo Fighters is a good one...learn to Fly

erm

Manic Street Preachers?

My band used to do 3 x 30min sets. Our last set was always half a dozen or so tracks that we knew would get people up and dancing. Stuff such as:

Beatles; You Can't Do That, Daytripper, She Loves You, Get Back
Rolling Stones; Jumpin' Jack Flash
The Kinks; You Really Got Me
Steeler's Wheel; Stuck in the Middle With You

We also opened every gig we ever did with Ocean Color Scene's "Riverboat Song" since it was the theme tune to TFI Friday at the time and everybody loved it. I guess that's not really what you're after though. ;)

What about these rock ditties?
Anathema - "Pulled Under at 2000 Metres A Second" - damn good "twin Gibson guitars" thrash!
Porcupine Tree - "Shallow" or "Halo"
Diamond Head - "Am I Evil?" - famously covered by Metallica
Budgie -"Breadfan" - also covered by Metallica
Paul ;)
PS - Lizzy & AC/DC are two of my favs - old school rock rocks!

Or another one - if you do classic rock, how about 'The Rover' by Led Zep - ace song, nobody does it, but loads will recognise it... Or even Custard Pie. Both from the Physical Graffiti album...

I used to play in a covers band and the upbeat ones that went down well were the likes of Get Back, Back in the USSR, I Saw Her standing there, Take Me to The River, Addicted to love

How about some early Radiohead - something from Pablo Honey or the Bends (avoid the suicidal stuff though!)

Radiohead's 'Creep'? Stone Temple Pilots 'Vaseline'?

If you get someone to kick the lead singer in the nuts before you play go for the Darkness and I believe in a thing called love.

Don't really think that Pete would go for that idea...

What about a bit of

Ozzy - Flyin' high again

Metallica - Whiplash

Slayer - Raining blood

Usually good for bit of a frenzy.

Mark

I predict a riot - Kaiser Chiefs
Radiohead
FooFighters (pretty much anything they've done)
The Presidents of the United States have some good tracks, especially their cover of Video killed the radio star.
Metallica (anything from their Black album and most of the Garage covers)
Motorhead - good thrash metal.

Pretty vague list, but theres soo many to choose from

Stone Temples pilots stuff is great (sex type thing is one of my faves ;) ) - not many people will probably have heard of them though.

Was STP not big over here then? They had/have a huge following in the US. One of my favs.
