hello everyone I would like to know if anyone has any ideas what I can do whilst I am not mobile as I have osteoarthritis and on Friday the 15th November 2013 I am having my ankle fused. After the operation I am not going to be able to put any weight on the ankle so movement is going to very limited for up to 12 weeks. Any ideas will be welcome

Hi Robert,

:) Best wishes for the operation on Friday.
I've just moved this over to Talk Photography for you rather than leave it in the welcome section because you'll likely get more responses here.
(I'm assuming that you're looking for photography related projects rather than just general inspiration for things to do)

I suppose the obvious answer is going to be some table top still life type stuff. What sort of subjects interest you? If you can get a table set up in a comfortable working position, the possibilities are virtually endless.
Or how about working on your PP skills by working through some tutorials online?

If you like say wildlife, you could get small feeding station set up near a window you can sit near for some shooting :)

As Sarah said there's a few table top type projects you can do things like still life's, macros of all kinds etc..

Totally left field I know but are there are other hobbies etc that your interested in?

Hi Robert, that sounds painful, i suffer with alot of joint pain although probably not to your scale, but i know how frustrating it can be...

What Sarah has suggested is a great idea .... i'd also maybe point you in the direction of my thread, it's a bit of fun with a new theme each monday and it's all about the mundane objects around us in the home/office etc.. it might be something to look at.:D link here:

I hurt my back recently... had to spend a lot of time just sat on my ass... I got bored, so decided to shoot some still life at my desk using small LED lights... pieces of paper as reflectors and flags etc. I'd just bought a new pair of headphones, and decided they;d make a nice subject.

You can shoot all kinds of things around the home, and use whatever you can get your hands on to light the subject.

Click for full resolution... then click again to zoom in. (May not work on tablets and phones).

Maybe a good opportunity to get a book on photoshop or whatever your favoured software is and work through it to increase your proficiency and skill level.

Could be a good time to improve your PS skills.

You could delve into macro photography. There is a whole little world of things laying around the house.

In my last job we all had cartoon character names mine was Penfold. Just saying.

Boosting your editing knowledge is a good call (though of course I have no idea how far along in this you are). You could buy a few miniature figures and have a go at this sort of thing.

Good luck with op!

Hi Robert..I find myself, and have been for the past 6 weeks, in much the same position as you having dislocating my knee and knackering tendons, I'm now in a full length brace and need crutches to walk any distance, until late December, so I have been revisiting images and re-editing and converting and was pleased with the results..but having said that I find it very frustrating not being able to get out!!

Hi, Robert, not sure of your photographic skills but perhaps spend some time watching instruction\educational videos on photography and post processing.

Macro, stacking, timelapse, Selfies, GIFs, someone mentioned miniature figures - plenty for you to do.

Good luck and a speedy recovery

Cheers.

Hi Robert, I hope and trust everything went well with your op yesterday (unless it was cancelled again) and your feeling better soon. When I was laid up for a while with a back problem I did a lot of macro shooting and I've recently got a macro rail and a Raynox 250 so I can try some focus stacking shots next time I'm immobile.
