Yes
I am semi retired, and I have all the things that I need or want. Car, Camera , friends , holidays loving partner ( I hope) reasonable income ( could be better ) and a nice home to live in. But at times I get the feeling something is missing, and I don't quite know what! So I all in all I don't really need anything else, OK the things I have are all cheapo stuff and not worth a lot of money, very basic cheap end camera car clothes etc, I really do like value for money ;) while most would want to upgrade, I am happy with what I have.

But there are times when I feel like there is something missing, I get this yearning for something, and I have no idea what it is, I just can't put my finger on it.

Does anybody else know what I am talking about ?

Perhaps I just have too much time on my hands :)

I know exactly what your on about. I won't tell you about myself or what I have or do etc i don't think that's important but I think it's part of human nature to want more and do more. As if your searching for something even though you have no idea what it is or where to find it. So your not alone. I think most people feel like it sometime I'm their life.

Yes. Definitely.

All men (and women) have a need that few seek to fulfill - they are too busy acquiring material things.

Phew thank goodness for that, I was worried that the post would be seen as a little strange. I am glad that there are others on here that know what I am rambling on about.

I am not necessarily looking for that something else, like a purchasable item. But more of a state of mind sorta thing. I just have no idea what that yearning is, but I had that feeling again this morning.

Yeah same for me.

More sex? ;)
On a serious note, maybe you want to feel "success" again. Maybe take on a project?

It's the lost energy of youth you yearn for, however in many ways the compensations of financial security are a reasonable trade-off.

Nothing you can do about it anyway so just carry on but with the benefit of experience and wisdom you should be more aware than ever that opportunities to experience new places and things are not be dismissed lightly.

All day every day you're bombarded with adverts saying "this or that will make your life perfect", even if you avoid watching them they still filter in. Add to that human nature as said above, the survival instinct that way back meant fighting over a chicken has morphed into an I want more instinct now that we no longer have to fight over the chicken.

It's nothing material I want....far more intangible than just wanting something

I agree. A couple of nymphomaniacs wouldn't go amiss.

All this reminds me of a film some years back, a group trekked to an unknown land in search of something unknown. No one knew what it was that they were searching for, they were told they would know what it was when the finally found it.

Who wants to sign up for the trek? :naughty:

Yup I'm in:D

Could you be missing a sense of perspective, Jon ?

Get out into the wide outdoors. Take in a few good country walks and enjoy the freedom it gives. It costs nothing nor can it be bought.

How about doing some voluntary work? Go to a local Rotary club meeting, meet new people and see if it's for you. They usually meet once a week, so it won't take over your life, but it might add something to it. Only an idea.

What do you mean by perspective, do you mean as to what I already have?

I already do that, I go for long walks with my camera, and other times I will go rambling through the woods with my dog. I can be gone for many hours walking, so there is still something missing someplace. Just no idea what lol

There is nothing missing. It's just difficult for humans to be content! Unless you have a burning ambition that you haven't fulfilled there just isn't actually anything.

I reckon your local house of religion (choose your own flavour) could probably help :)

Emigrate. Take yourself out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. Experiencing a new culture and language will fill whatever gaps you have

One day, just keep walking, book into a hostel/b&b overnight and keep walking that same direction the next day. Dont plan it, just do it on a whim.

Yes - you seem to have plenty. Sounds a bit like you should be content with what you have. Sometimes people expect things out of life that are not actually available to them and they become fixated on that. I do the rambling bit with my dog through the woods every day and it is the best part of my life - absolutely love it. Everything else is a bonus.
Good luck to you, Jon.

I know I am very lucky for what I have, and I am grateful for my lifestyle. But over the last few years there is just something inexplicable I am yearning for. As I say I have no idea what it is, or even if this thing exists. Just something I can't put my finger on it !

Thanks for your comments, I will keep walking the dog ;)
