Really starting to get fed up now :'(

cutting a VERY long story short:
- want to buy d7000
- shopped around and finding cheap prices
- dont want an imported one
- Warehouse express doing it for £1059, Free nikon bag, plus 18-55 lens kit
- John lewis doing it for £1179 no free bag, but for an extra £47 i can cover the camera for 3 years for accidental/water damage

WHAT DO I DO!!!

Do i need to pay £47 to cover the camera for 3 years? I mean if im going to spend over a 1000 on a camera im thinking its worth it?
That would bring my total up to £1226 in john lewis! :bang:

Ontop i need to buy a lens for close ups and portrait, which one do i buy.
:bonk: Please help.

Im going TODAY to get it, quick responses needed.

Mina x

You currently get a 2 year Nikon warranty anyway:

http://www.europe-nikon.com/en_GB/service_support/Support_2_Warranty.page

so what you are actually paying £167 for is one additional year, which is probably a warranty with John Lewis, rather than directly through Nikon. If you are careful with your camera, I don't (personally) see why you should - especially if it's possibly also covered under your home insurance or something like that.

Any faults that might develop with the camera are likely to develop early, certainly within 24 months - any hardware faults after that are likely to be through extreme use or damage, and since the vast majority of users never do anything that could cause that, I wouldn't bother.

Budget for the lens? For portraits, the 50mm f/1.8 acts as a short telephoto on crop sensor cameras like the D7000, meaning it's quite a nice focal length for portraits. And it's less than £100 for the AF-D one at the moment (a brand spanking new AF-S one has just been released though, so prices might vary).

If you have a Nat West advantage gold account you can get an extra years warranty including accidental damage for free if you use your Nat West debit or credit card.
or
See how much extra it would be to cover it on your contents insurance

Whatever way I would get it from WEX if its 120 quid cheaper with freebies too

You get a two year guarantee with Nikon cameras anyway, so you'd be paying extra at John Lewis, and then an extra £47 for one years warranty. :bonk:

I wouldn't pay for a warranty beyond what the manufacturer is offering, if the break, as with any electronic consumer product, they go early or not at all. That's up to you though.

do you have any existing nikon lenses to use with it ??

no unfortunately i don't.

right so phoned jessops, no price match to Warehouse express, john lewis- forget it, Currys- no stock.

Im really left down to ordering from WE and getting a free bag and chancing it without extended guarantee (accidental breakdown)

Don't worry once the two years warranty runs out it will be obsolete and you will be wanting the D9000

Just noticed your user name, quality! Did you know Leyton Orient FC run out to this?

A 2 year guarantee is still a long time!

what about buying body only from jessops - £899 and either the 50mm 1.8 or 35/1.8 lenses. Haggle with them and you should get 20-50 notes off in the shop - especially if you take their warranty and then cancel it.

This will get you shooting today and you will be able to sell either of the primes more easily than a kit lens if you decide you really prefer a zoom.

The sandisk UHS-I memory card is pefect for the D7000 as so fast but get from amazon for £28 rather than paying shop prices - closer to 50 notes.

Certainly did, been an O's supporter since 1966 and lived a good part of my life half a mile away from Brisbane Road

All the retail extra warranties are a rip off. I never buy them.
I think about the number of consumer electronics I've bought over the last say 10 years and how much I would have paid in extra cover. It reckon it would have been about £500
In comparison, I've paid about £75 in repairs on a couple of things.
Have I been lucky ?
How much stuff have you bought that's cost money to get fixed ?

Wouldn't JL price match amazon/Jessops prices? The normal warranty does not cover accidental damage but the JL does AFAIK

What about DigitalRev? I am seriously looking at this camera, and it seems a good deal at £735 for the body.

Keep an eye on Jessops. Got a fantastic deal over the bank holiday weekend.

Listed price for D7000 body only was £899. Added to my basket and discovered they were doing an unadvertised promotion and giving away a Velbon Sherpa 530+ tripod & PH157Q head with a normal selling price of approx £180.

Confused me to start with when I saw the extra items appear in the basket and I initially deleted them!

The tripod kits are fetching £90-100 on ebay. Also went through topcashback.co.uk and got £45 cashback.

I think Digitalrev are grey imports, which is how their prices can be so low. They seem to dispatch from London for some items if you go via their website, so best to check with them where their stock originates from.

I bought a D200 from them via ebay about 5 years ago. I got a really good deal, but I didn't realise that Nikon UK will not touch grey imports should anything go wrong.

When I ordered a D300 from Purelygadgets, I cancelled the camera in transit because I'd found out it was a French D300 I'd be getting, and after phoning Nikon, they said they would not honour the French warranty. I assume that it is still the same.

Depends on how much you're saving I suppose.
