Somebody wamts one of my images.

I have been contacted by a guy in Montreal who is in a band and they would like to use one of my images on their myspace page and blog site. He says they are in the process of recording an album and the image is a strong contender for the album artwork. No mention of any money has been mentioned for the myspace use but I would be paid if they used the image on the album.
Now obviously I am flattered that somebody would like to use one of my images but should I be asking for payment for use on myspace? If I ask for payment and they say no what is there to stop them or anybody really, from downloading and using an image. The file size is very small so it is no use if they want to print it.

Any suggestions of how to sort this out.

My first thoiught is.. if there using myspace then there not going to pay money... if they where then they would have a proper website not a freebie.

Second thought... It's a refreshing change that someone from myspace asks :)

If it's a web pictures and they cant use for anything else I would let them use on myspace with credit/link as I think you would be pushed to get any dosh out of em. Make sure it's clear that the usage is myspace only though.

I am sure people will not agree with me.. but thats my thoughts:)
 
Thats pretty much what I thought, we all post images here there and everywhere and anybody could download and use them and we would be none the wiser. Like you said at least he asked!

I agree.
And when they have used your small image (for free, but with attribution) on their MySpace website the chance that they will want to use it for their album artwork increases considerably. And if they do I would charge them serious money for that.
 
I agree with the above. Although I'd like to point out that kids nowadays are far more likely to go looking for a band on MySpace than they are to hunt down a proper website :p
