Some things just make no sense, yet we still do them! Some examples:

Wearing a tie. Waste of time and money. Totally useless piece of apparel. Bin 'em!

Womens shoes. In no way does the typical womens' shoe conform to the shape of the foot. How stupid is that? Why torture yourselves ladies? And high heels create an unnatural gait. Wear sensible shoes!

Women adopting the man's surname when wed? Pointless! Time to end this archaic custom!

Anyone got anyone else to add?

Drinking booze.
Smoking.
Taking drugs.
Spitting chewing gum out or sticking it to things.
Watching Eastenders.
Trying to stifle a fart, honestly it can cause you harm so just let it out.
Shaking hands, where have they been and when did they last wash them?
Stubbing toes. It hurts so don't do it.
Spending too much time on li

Ties...Yeah ok maybe agree, look smart still in shirt
Women's shoes Urghh fully agree...give me boots or converse any day, infact I don't posses shoe shoes :D
Married name...Yes if the guy has a really stoopid name lol

Stop telling others what to do or not. Just do what you want to do and leave others alone.

And yes I am aware of the irony of what I just wrote.

Eating meat, at least lots of it, trashes the planet and does us a fair bit of harm...
Actually good for the planet

(EDIT: Or I should say "science is not clear whether it's good or bad for the planet". i.e. we can't yet draw a definitive conclusion)

and if it appears bad for us it's most likely because of the mistreatment of animals - feeding them things which are out of their natural diet. If we eat sick plants or sick animals, neither will be good for us.

I have always wondered why women bother shaving under their arms but men don't usually bother - same with legs unless they do a lot of cycling

Some things are best not to question and leave alone. I, for once, am quite happy with the way that is.

Driving cars.
Making that Mrs Brown's Boys show.
Veganism.

I have never understood why people strike a match to light a fire. After lighting fire, they then blow the match out, then throw it on the fire!

Absolutely
I have only worn a tie for funerals an marriages since I retired... however shirts an jackets are designed for ethe expectation of wearing a tie.

there wasvrecently a photo of a very beautiful model on this site wit totally distorted feet, it is criminal.

As for changing names...the espanic system is so much better, you know a persons relationship to each other immediatly. Though the order can now be less certain, since children can now have the fathers and mothers family name reversed on the grounds of sexual equality. I am not certain about adding the husbands name at the end with a de. As that smacks of ownership, and can be confused with the addition of noble or important families.
You do not seem to see the de after the given name and before respected family names these days. It was still common in the 50's

Being a 'de' myself, and also a 'van' but lets no divulge too much information, I can categorically say that 'de' does not refer to ownership or the husbands name or anything like that at all....It is a grammatical thing often denoting a location or profession. The other way it is used is to clarify which is a first name and which is a surname....

No wonder you were getting stuck in to the car thread :D

I have heard that dutch rode bicycles not vans

I knew a Dutch bike when I was younger :exit:

The Germans stole my grandmothers bike :(

They demolished a few of my great aunts/uncles' houses between '39 and '45.

Went to Holland years ago, and it does seem they all ride Bicycles. Lovely friendly people, absolutely no problem taking photos of the people as they go about their business. But at the same token, they will knock you down with their bike, if you don't move quickly enough :)
