Some Sad News From The Motor Racing World

Very sad, she's my age! In all honesty, I only remember her from her accident last year.

The news has really shocked me. María often featured on the extensive F1 coverage that Antena 3 provides here in Spain. She'd do features on car technology and driving techniques. Despite the terrible accident she suffered, she was always positive and smiling. She came across as a lovely woman.
Very sad news.

I think anyone associated with F1 tends to be known amongst F1 fans. She obviously had a much higher profile out here because she was part of the F1 coverage and a celebrity (Think Hola! front covers etc). Her dad was an F1 driver and is a motor sport team owner, and her brother is a racer too.
She has been in the media a lot here recently because she got married in July, and was going to launch her autobiography next week. It's called La vida es un regalo (Life is a Gift).

Translated, it reads:
The autopsy carried out in the Forense of Sevilla Anatomical Institute has confirmed that the 33 year old sportswoman died of absolutely natural causes.
 
I was watching the end of practice this morning when Simon Lazenby announced whilst standing next to Susie Wolff. I felt so sorry for her as you could see that being on live tv as it was announced was the last thing she wanted. It's a really sad loss as although I don't know too much about Maria apart from her accident it seems like she was a very inspirational figure for a lot of people and will be sadly lost.

She was indeed, and very popular. My friends seem shocked and saddened. I know she wasn't a household name in the UK or outside the world of F1, but here it's big news.

That's when I heard too, they looked very shocked. I don't normally get to watch practice.

I know it's terminology but there's nothing "natural" about a 33 year old dying so suddenly :(

I know what you mean Julie - it's just not right. Two people I knew passed away this week. One in their late 40s of a brain haemorrhage and mid 30s from Cancer.

Both painfully young and leave behind young families. :'(
