All this reminds me of a letter in one of the mags a few months ago shortly after they'd been giving monopods away as their subscription gift. A lady wrote in thanking them after some scrote tried to nick her camera in an underpass & she battered them in the face with the monopod

Canons may be better than Nikons, but Nikons are really good themselves. They're perfect for those that can't afford Canons, since they're bloody expensive...

Good on you for giving him a swift back-hander fella, at least you got the kit back, another few seconds and you might have been buying some new gear.

You should have shown him how the camera worked, by taking uber DOF photos of him trying to work out why his fingers wont move like they used to.
