Just sat here before I head into town for a few presents. Got the back door open and having a five minute sit. The birds are singing outside and it sounds lovely and relaxing.

The sound of Birds singing has to be one of the nicest sounds you can hear. Or do you prefer the sound of coins jingling?

What country are you in? The only birds that sing over here in December are robins. Give it a couple of months though and it'll all kick off again. Cant wait.

Pssssst. Glug glug glug glug.... :)

Seriously, though, my children giggling.

One of my favourite sounds is as nice when it stops - cicadas singing when we're on holiday! Love hearing them but it's lovely when they all stop. The cat purring is pretty good too. Rather like a fire crackling as well.

Definitely with OP, its fantastic to immerse yourself in the sounds of nature.
A couple of others that Im fond of
The sound of Cicadas on a hot summer evening.
Sleeping wild with the sound of a small waterfalls or the waves lapping at the shore.
I also quite like the sensory deprivation of the wind blowing a hoolie and being up on a mountain somewhere, its heightens the other senses, and can be very calming once you embrace it

Better add wavelets breaking on a deserted beach and waves crashing onto a pebble one or cliffs. Yup, natural sounds!

Blackbirds in the morning and Mistle Thrushes in the evening (sometimes late at night!) in my garden every day. Even in December. :-)

having high frequency hearing loss i would love to hear the birds singing ,but i can't ,even with hearing aids fitted 90% of the time traffic noise or wind noise overrides bird song .lifes a bitch

Like:
Birdsong, waves retreating over a shingle beach, or gently lapping against the underside of a small boat, a small stream, oboe, violins, high heels on a marble floor. :)

Dislike:
Piers Morgan, Hatey Stropkins.

North West UK. No idea what Birds they were, but a lovely chirping sound and it gave me a really happy feeling :)

high heels on a marble floor

Used to love listening out for the tap tap tap of a girlfriends high heels many years ago, then the slam of the gate as she came up the path. Best bit was the sound of her footsteps on the stairs. I think I better leave it there ;)

Love the sound of kids playing in the school playground in the distance, and the school bell in the distance calling them in. Probably reminds me of my school days :)

Someone pass him some tissues, or is it too late. ;)

I was at a nursery nativity today, young kids singing with sleigh bells is just magical at this time of year

88" Shovelhead with straight through pipes at tickover. Actually, pretty much any big V with minimal silencing!

The wind.. Real gail force and rain

Trains..my nan used to live right next to the railway bridge in my hometown, as kids when we visited we stayed in the bedroom right beside it.
As I got older I associated it with that and loved it

Cars and motorbikes...decent ones I mean :)

Children laughing too or the sound of silence when asleep :D

I have about an hours worth of dawn chorus on my hifi that starts playing quietly on a loop about 5 a.m. every day, great way to wake up :)

a few of mine in order of preference.

Waves crashing on the shore
The crackle of a fire on a stormy night (even better when combined with no 1 :)
A baby belly giggling.

Did I mention waves crashing on the shore :D

Yup, the sound of birds chattering is a lovely sound. The chatter of the sparrows and chickadee's gets louder as I fill up the feeders and put fresh suet/fat out for them. Even the chatter between the large gatherings of Magpies is nice. Don't care much for the shrill bark of a Blue Jay though!!

A Single or twin cylinder Gardiner diesel ticking over in an old narrow boat.

A Steam locomotive working hard.

I'll agree with the sound of heels too,

As others have done I'll add to that the sound of children playing. I live near a school and it really is a joy to hear the children but such a shame that I can't lean on the fence and watch too as obviously I'd be a p**** if I did that.

Used to love the sound the motor boats on the lake in the local park in mid summer, long gong due to health and safety etc :(

The sound of the missus saying "do you want a bl........."

No perhaps not, wrong forum :) Also not likely to happen :)

That is one of the saddest things to read because it's so true...

Yep I'll agree with both those :(
I pass a few schools most days, and this time of year its fun to see the littlies dressed as Elves, Fairies (and god knows what sometimes :D )
But daren't take more than a quick glance, as I'm sure some arse would take my number and report me as some kind of sex fiend :(

But as for sounds, Simon and Garfunkel summed it up quite nicely for me :D

Stranger on the shore by Acker Bilk , is a lovely sound to the ears while drifting off to sleep :)

The sound of silence, with nothing but ones internal thoughts and the sound of Jupiter's magnetic field.
