Splash:
No major complaints from me about the splash screen as it seems to be serving its purpose of giving the site some immediate identity and purpose. I would prefer to be able to click anywhere on screen to be able to skip it though.
My only small criticism is that it takes ages to go through the animation loop and I can't read your signature, so when you say 'Black & White Photography by..' I literally have no idea. That one piece of the animation serves no purpose at all so perhaps it might be better to have your name and the signature together?
Home:
Loads of wasted space at the top of the page here. Your logo, as nice as it is, is far too spacious and obtrusive. I think you could do with slimming it down a little, sharpening it up and making it more of a logo that an assortment of words.
The homepage is in itself a bit of a strange one. I really like the image you've chosen but it's a little too large. On a standard browser window I've got to scroll down and right to be able to see the whole thing. You've also got a small issue with the 'Photography' part of your 'Fine Art' line being pushed over the photo on a smaller sized browser window.
The other problem with having such a large image on your homepage is that it will get stale very quickly. if you're a regular visitor you'll have seen it once and it will have made such an impact that it'll soon be ignored completed. Possibly a case here for some image rotation so each visitor, within reason, sees a different image.
The links on the left of the page work okay but they're not particularly attractive to look at. It all seems a little bit dated to me, which is a shame as the actual mechanics underneath are sound.
Gallery:
Because your Flash gallery takes up so much room on the page, the links on the left now get chopped off as Matt's already pointed out. This will happen on any browser as it's just the way the coding generates the site.
Technically the gallery works well and the images are nicely displayed, but I'd prefer to see a bit more evenness in terms of the sizing with the maximum length of any side set to a specific number. As it is there's a lot of having to resize the window to see all the images. I'm also not keen on the transport controls of the gallery as they're a little too small for comfort, even though they do work efficiently.
About The Photographs:
Nicely sized text and well spaced out but perhaps a little too big? Again I'm forced to resize my standard browser window to be able to read everything. No problem with having to scroll down but I'm not happy about having to scroll to the right.
When it comes to the text itself, I'm not particularly keen but having read it thoroughly I can understand your reasons for wanting to put it in. I'm just not sure that anyone visiting will really be able to fully understand the information presented to them and why you've included it.
About The Site:
Same issue as before with the text sizing but no real issues with what you've actually written. If that's what you want to have on the page then more power to your elbow.
Links:
Same problem with all the Links pages with regards to the size of the text and having to mess around with the browser window, but the content would appear to sound. As you don't seem to be actively selling your services through this site there isn't an issue about taking browsers of your site to other peoples, but should you change your approach then you ought to consider if you really want to give people an open ticket to leave your site.
Miscellaneous Download:
Same issues for the size of the text as before but I think the whole idea behind you offering a downloadable wallpaper is quite nice. I would like to see a small thumbnail of what I'm getting for my money, as it were, but I suppose there's always the option of a nice surprise. But you are offering a wallpaper, not a screensaver, right?
I've not tested all of the links, but 4 of the 5 I did failed to extract from the .zip archive properly. Not sure what's going on there but might be worth checking out.
Miscellaneous Contact:
I'll stick my usual moan in here about preferring a contact form on a page like this rather than just a hyperlinked email address, but as it's not really a commercial site that's not a massive issue.
Overall:
Nice, clean design, easy to navigate and with some fantastic content. But it needs a little tidying up here and there and some of your coding will need to be either re-done or replaced entirely.
Aside from all that, I have to say I really like your photography. Not my usual cup of tea but for one reason or another I got quite into your work and found it very pleasing.
