[Solved] Having banding issues - Software or colourspace related?

I have a very strange problem that I'm not sure is actually a problem.

This is a photo I took a while back. On the left is how the exported jpeg (no sharpening, no processing of any kind) looks in irfanview, and on the right is how it looks in lightroom. This is at 100% magnification. Note the banding on the right side image. Is that normal?

If I view the image in my web browser it looks the same as the one in lightroom.

I don't really understand this. Is it a colorspace issue?

After wracking my brains for hours I've managed to solve it.

Changed gfx.color_management.mode to 1 in firefox

and

In colour management settings (windows 7) I checked the "Use my settings for this device" and created a profile based on my own calibration.

So much better now. Everything looks miles better.
