Sold something on eBay.... almost victim to fraud!

Hi,

I've sold loads of bits on eBay and the buyer has always paid straight away, this time they have sent an invoice request and wanted pictures of the item they've already seem.

Seems odd and alarm bells are ringing, especially as this is my second eBay account with a zero rating (I had a list for free offer) and they item wasn't even the cheapest on there, by a couple of quid which I only noticed after listing.

Any thoughts or am I just being daft?

I did contact eBay by chat but they didn't allay my fears at all and just said I could raise an unpaid item in a couple of days if they don't pay, but just wouldn't answer or give any advice on if they do and claim I sent wood or something.

I would simply send them the invoice through ebay as requested and mention that the only photo's you have are those already posted on the listing and that the item is now securely packaged awaiting their payment.
 
Thanks, that pretty much were I am - have a pic of the serial number and will be taking pics during the paging process.
 
Oh, it will be RMSD, I'm also going to take a video of it being packed and if they return it for some reason (like they have a wood surplus) I'll video the opening.
 
lol, it was a con, just sorting the mess out now.
 
Omg not seen this one done for a good few years ,forward all the e/mails to spoof@paypal.com . Looks like there getting better at it to ,NEVER ever send anything till you have cleared funds in your PayPal account ..
If you don't forward those e.mails next time they could get lucky and actually catch someone out .

P.s there are grammar mistakes within those e.mails I won't enlighten on them but they make it obvious it's a con

P.P.S the only safe method of sending stuff to other country's is to use e.bays global shipping program,which you sign up for at listing ,you then send your item to a e.bay forwarding warehouse in the midlands and they do all the shipping and customs clearance from there .works really well with real time updates and delivery confirmation from e.bay direct . Used it quiet a lot of late and you get a far better price with no risks to yourself

Thanks Jeff, good advice the funny thing is how long it took to get that email out of eBay (spoof@ebay.co.uk) - three transfers and around half an hour :)

Still everything I have is now forwarded and hopefully at least one bit is shut down.

What was interesting though was how after they'd been spring in private email he came back to me and said:

"Hello there so sorry my account was compromised few moment ago. But i have contacted ebay about it. i was advised to change my password and some other details which i have done and have provided my details to ebay as proof of ownership of the account. My account is now back to normal. i just got a notification from them that every this is sorted. if i may ask have you experienced such before? "

PS: I just checked my spam and have seen another four in my spam - three from "PayPal" and another from "ebay"
 
They are persistent buggers once they think they have a mug on a string .nigeria is scam central avoid at all costs ,simply delete all e.mails preferably unread or forward them to spoof at PayPal ,I think there's one for e.bay to .as stated any out of u.k sales should these days be handled by the global shipping program ,and all monies must be in your PayPal account before posting .
Having been scammed myself many years ago it leaves a nasty taste ,when something is sold I wait for monies to appear in PayPal ,it's then transferred to my secondary bank account which is purely for e.bay sales ,and I then transfer it online to another account ,so anyone trying to do a claim back scam would be faced with a virtually empty account .
At this moment in time I have a 100% feedback account with just under 2000 positive feedback .put your lost sale down to experience and simply realist it ,if e.bay have added sales commission to your account phone them up and explain what's happened and they will delete it .payal will respond to your spoof e.mails within a few days.

As I said before ,watch out for grammar mistakes ,there's at least 3 in that latest message LOL

I surmise the more sophisticated and slick the con is the harder the scammer will work to convince the potential victim that all is in fact well!

As a non eBayer I would like to think they (eBay) are big enough globally and robust enough to try to clamp down on these b****rds. :mad:
 
Next time the mods clean out my cage, you can have the leavings to post to this fine upstanding ebayer.
 
I always ask for pay via paypal. I was almost scammed, but thanks to them i wasn't!. I was impressed, i myself hadn't noticed but they did!. Talk about customer prioritization!. I would say for me, they are the safest way to deal with online transactions.
