Solargraphy

Looks fun, would more correctly be a heliograph though? Maybe not since they track the Sun but still a neat idea - almost a week after I gave away my last packet of Ilford 7x5 too :(

ooh i'm not sure, i just copied the terminology from the website :)

i presume the ilford paper i've seen in stock in jessops is the kind of thing you'd need? though it suggests "5x7 Semi Matte Black and White Photographic paper" ... i'm a complete novice to paper!
 
Gloss would not be a good idea inside an enclosed tin so yes, go for a matte finish. Make sure the paper you buy is for developing though and not ink printing, the packets are not as clear as they could be!

haha thanks Arthur, that's exactly the kind of mistake i'd make!
the kind of stuff that should be completely light-sealed (refrigerated?!) and only opened in darkroom conditions?
 
Yup - not so sure refrigeration is necessary - but can't hurt :D

don't know why that came into my head... i think back in the day at school when we used the darkroom, paper was kept in the fridge?! might well be making that up though :)
 
Fridge is good for film, constant stable temperature, dark dry environment, that sort of thing. Like I said, couldn't hurt for paper too - as long as the light goes off when you shut the door :lol:
 
just popped into the local Jessops and the 'least glossy' Ilford 7x5 paper they had was 'satin'... do you think this will be ok? hope so, as I got the last pack!

I wouldn't bother getting paper like that off Jessops next time, either the Harman Direct Ilford shop or mailshots is a good place to get it and a lot cheaper.

I guess there will be cheaper places online, heck anywhere's generally cheaper than Jessops :)
But I was keen to get some of these 'cameras' made and set up this weekend... so wanted to pick up something immediately, no time to wait! ;):D
 
ok, about all i need to buy now is the canister/cans... i don't drink, so buying lager cans is a bit pointless!

has anyone used an alternative 'camera body'?
i thought about some builders pipe/tubing, but that might be too thick to make an effective hole?

my some curled up flat sheets of plastic?
 
You can buy me the cans and i would gladly drink them for you?

"Ilford" paper is all for developing.

The Ink jet paper is "Ilford Galerie", which is made by a company in Japan. The name was simply licensed.

sounds a bit odd as I get emails saying about wet paper and inkjet paper
 
The inkjet paper made by the proper Ilford company is branded as "Harman".

http://www.ilford.com/en/products/galerie/index.asp <-- Ilford Galerie. Made in Japan or wherever. They don't do wet paper or film, although still probably the best inkjet paper out there.

I use Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl and Harman Crystaljet Luster papers for inkjet.
