I have no software.

Just camera and various lens.

What do you recommend.

What cost should I expect to lay out

Thanks

Do you use PC or Mac ?

What do you want the software to do ?

Do you want something quick and easy or something more complex or something all singing all dancing ?

What is your budget ?

I use PC,

I use Photoshop Adobe Elements which most of the Pro's will poo-poo but here is my reasoning.... I used to use PaintShop Pro which is very easy for the novice to get thier heads round but everywhere you look, in magazines, forums, etc etc etc refer to Adobe Photoshop as the standard. So with Elements all the tutorials carry across and the buttons/terminology/processes are the same. You just get a little less than Photoshop and when i can afford the upgrade i will. Elements is kinda like a "Photoshop Lite" in many respects.

I used to ask questions about Painshop Pro and get limited response but with Elements/Photoshop it seams to be the stuff "most people" use and usually i just search on here and get my answers that way.

Picasa3 - free download, easy to use, lots of simple enhancements.
May be good as a starter while you learn GIMP etc.

I would download the trials of both Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (full workflow and a bit of processing, professional tool, full version £200) and Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 (Adobe Bridge for workflow - same as full Photoshop, consumer tool - easier to use, full version £80)

Both trials last 30 days and will give you a feel of which is better for you.

Or for free there is Google Picasa which in function is more the same as Lightroom, but nowhere near as powerful.

Look at the first entry at the top of this forum - A short list of photo editors, raw converters and other photo editing tools.

I am playing aroud with gimp.

Seems eay to use.

I love free stuff

Thanks to all

I find that Gimp has a rubbish RAW editor so you may want to look at Photoshop Elements8 if you're doing Raw. Version 6 or 7 will still be good and a bit cheaper. You're looking at £50ish for elements 8.

I use Elements 6 (for Mac) and Lightroom 2.5

Lightroom 2.5 is about £160ish and is SUPERB!!!!!

I do use Gimp occasionally and is perfect for Jpeg image manipulation.

If you want something quick and online and instant, try THIS It is extremely basic and free.
