Yes
I have a program that I have been trying to install on Windows 8. It gets nearly to the end then rolls back and uninstalls it.

I have tried disabling the virus software (even uninstalled it at one point) I have also used safe mode, stopped everything running etc.

any ideas would be appreciated

thanks

Windows 8 includes a utility called the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter that can sometimes automatically resolve compatibility problems. You can run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter by right-clicking on the problematic application and choosing the Troubleshoot Compatibility command from the shortcut menu.

One last thing you can do is check the Compatibility Center for information about the application. The Compatibility Center is a Web site Microsoft uses to provide application compatibility information for Windows 7 and 8. In some instances, it provides a link to detailed instructions on what you must do to make an otherwise-incompatible application work with Windows 8.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/Home

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks but I have tried the suggestions and I also downloaded a Fix-It program from Microsoft that is supposed to fix install problems but it found nothing

All programs are for Win 8 (tried 3 now) but they are all from the same company (Serif) I just installed antivirus after un-installing and that installed fine

Is there a forum for Serif where you might get specific help?

Silly question, have you asked SERIF if they know of any problems??

I'll shift this to the computer section for you.
But I'll also leave a 24 hr redirect from OoF.
Maybe someone in there has come across the problem before.

I think Win 8 uses Security Essentials automatically, so that may have kicked in when you uninstalled your AV and caused the problems?

Thanks everyone I EVENTUALLY sorted it (accidentally) I ran a different program and it said it needed ODBC32.DLL and mine was missing or corrupted

After replacing it I thought I would just check out if interest to see if my original Serif program would work and it did

So all sorted now.... seems that was the problem

No idea what ODBC32.DLL is for though..... :cautious:
