Hi all

I'm hoping some one can recommend some software for a specific task i'm trying to achieve.

For mothers day, I want to collate a collection videos and photos of our sons first year, backed by music and turned into a video file. There are certain 'features' I would also like to incorporate, the ability to do some basic transitions between the video/photos along with the ability to define the duration at which the photos show for, so some will be on for longer than others (if this makes sense).

This bit will be hard to explain, but i'd also like it to slowly zoom into or out of the photo as its being shown, cant really describe the effect but ive seen it done before.

So, can anyone recommend some software that would achieve the above? Free is preferred but don't mind paying a little so long as it wont require hours of technical learning

Hi Simon

Do you use PC or Mac?

If PC free option would windows movie maker and mac IMovies.

Paid option on Mac fotomagico and PC proshow.

If you have other video creator apps that may work but I found that the quality of the pictures is reduced when using these apps including Wmm.

The zoom in and out is known as the Ken Burns effect.

Thanks

Kev

Awesome thanks for the reply guys. Working on a pc so will check out wmm and proshow

Hi Simon,

Might be worth checking out Powerpoint. It does all you ask for.

Here's one I did for our footy league last year. There are many technical shortcomings in, for example, the joins between the music tracks etc. These are because I have never had any formal IT training and learned as I worked on it, but it demonstrates what I think you are after.

Although I didn't use it, there is your required function for zooming in to an area of an image and then back out again.

As far as technical learning is concerned, it takes a bit of working out if, like me, you're not really up on all this IT lark. However, this is only the third time I have used Powerpoint in my life. And given my lack of IT ability, it shows what could be achieved if you know a thing or two.

pS, I wouldn't for a single moment expect you to sit through it all, but a swifty scan might be worth doing.

Also, although there is no video in this presentation, Powerpoint does allow you to include it.

I can recommend Powerpoint (I'm a certified MOS in MS Office 2010)
It's an extremely powerful product.
You can include sound effects, music, video and transitions and animations between slides / photos plus a lot more.

Hope this helps,

Terry.

Premiere with a free trail of CC monthly subscription.
A bit fiddly but you can do loads with it
