Software for making cd compilations..?

What do you use ?
I want to be able to cross-fade tracks, and edit a little - I used to use Roxio 7, but can't find the cd. It was easy and friendly - is it worth buying a new copy or is there free stuff that is good and easy ?

nero 9 is a good one. im unsure if you can crossfade tracks though.
