Hi all,

I'm vaguely in the process of ordering a lightstand and umbrella and stuff setup, and watching the zack arias one light dvd (he's a bad man)

I have decided to bail on a second stand to have one, and was thinking about getting a hotshoe type umbrella (so v small compared to studio ones) but how small is too small?

Lastolite make 2 small sizes 15" and 24" which should I go for 20 quid says 15 but 24 should be better, a little direction would be nice

answers on a postcard for when i get back from the dogs

That's a great price for the 60x60  They're not umbrellas though M8, they're softboxes ;)

You can also buy clones for a lot less, have a wee look here

Oh aye, whilst I remember, you need a decent lightstand for the 60x60, it can be a bit top-heavy :bang:

hehehe I know they're softboxes thinking of getting a combi brolly and a softbox, as well as homemade gridspots to give me a lot of flexibility

ooooh never thought of using flickr strobist group to source bits

yes they are :D I'm atm pusing my 120 quid ish budget for the lot (it's gonna be a present to me)

Have you got a large shoot-through BTW? You may want to try say a 45/46" shoot through before you splash big money on an Ezybox. I'm not suggesting the results are exactly the same, but I am saying you can get a large, very soft light from a big shoot through positioned close to the subject. I've gone away from an Ezybox/Magic softbox for now, in favour of a 46" shoot-through (I got the Calumet one in the end, as they are located just around the corner to me, oposite Red Bull F1 HQ)

hi v8, it was me that posted the umbrella thread begging fir help last time, I was gonna get a dual duty brolly and a small softbox to go on a konig stand with a 'frotto adapter, my sister is getting it for me for my birthday so I was getting it all on amazon and just giving her a list of urls to make it easy.

1 stand with a brolly and softbox is v similar in price to 2 stands with just brollies

I have 2 lights, but often leave my 430 on camera with the flash off to use as an AF assist beam, maybe i need another flash.......

Hehe, before you know it you'll be repleat with flashes ;)

Yes, I remember your post David.

I just could not justify a softbox myself in the end, which is why I got a large shoot-through to see how I got on. It's enough for me for now :) However, if your sister is footing the bill :naughty: I wish my sister was so inclined :'(

really v8 the difference is one light source or two, she told me what I can spend (:D) and the money is the same for 2 brollies or one brolly and softbox, I suppose I could pick up a second brolly at a later date if I found myself wanting a second source?

It's that dammed one light dvd its messing with my head, makes me want to have a complete set of modifiers for a single flash

(oh and he uses a 20" softbox in it as well as the 50" - I had to skip back through the disc to check though :D)

*edit*

its my birthday hence the new toys and why I havent made the dammed order yet lol

Or even the 60" convertible if Calumet are still doing them on Fleabay for £15...

yeah the westcott is but theres a lastolite equivelant thats in price range, I shall check out fleabay for the calumet

Dunno......I've got err.....thirteen

You can get the "Magic" Speedbox, which is a clone of the smaller Lastolite one, for just over thirty quid from Photomart

lmao well I have two (considering a third) so basically I'll go for two dual function brollies, and maybe pick up a third speedlight - still cheaper than a softbox :D (I love having an on camera focus assist beam for when I shoot low light)

ok so maybe I answered my own Q lol

You need my patented focus-assist light then

might get me a few funny looks at the open mike, but do you find it works better than the AF assist beam in a speedlight?

well i got a speedlight already, and near as i can tell there isnt a way to disable the auto power off thingy which is dammed annoying when you stop shooting cos they stopped playing so I use old skool cheapy flashes as flashes and that for AF or when I want ttl (infrequently)

oooh, intrigued by the possibility of a few quid off, offer as in wait for it to come around or offer as in ask and you may receive?

Not sure what you mean David... Put in your best offer on the Ebay listing and within 48hrs your offer is either accepted or declined, is what I mean :)
