I have a 60cm x 60cm Bessel Speedbox for my OCF strobist stuff.. something like this:

http://www.bessel.co.uk/acatalog/60cm-x-60cm-Speedbox-S-Fit-5060339961491.html#SID=52

I had never used the grid that came with it (which I heard was pretty useless anyway) and it was only when I was in a studio last week using proper lighting equipment that I saw what a difference a grid can make.

However, it would now appear that I've lost / mislaid the grid when I moved and I heard that Bessel now do a deeper more effective grid with their products that works better so I called them but they can't supply just the grid.

So I have been looking on ebay and such for a grid and I was surprised to see that there aren't that many available?

Anyone know of a source in the UK or on fleabay?

Many thanks

AB

Lencarta sell their grids separately, and the look good too. But they'll probably need adapting. I'm planning to buy a large one to cut down for my cheap softbox, which I'll get the MiL to resize for me.

Thanks Phil, I found one on ebay from china but looks a bit saggy, do you know what can affect their effectiveness? ie deeper the better or the size of the apertures?

I think it's the size and depth, and you should be looking for 4cm minimum.
Though I'm not really an expert. :)

The honeycomb for the Lencarta 60 x 60cm softbox may fit, as the softbox has the same nominal size as the one sold by Bessel.
The material is 4cm deep and the 'holes' are 4 x 4cm too, that's an effective aperture size and depth.
The effectiveness is governed by a combination of both aperture size and depth.

Thanks Garry.. are they Velcro fit and how much do they retail at?

I got mine on Ebay. 5cm grids, and they are great. About £10 each, a bargain :)

Yes, velcro fitting and £29.99 - can't link to them as the website seems to be down at the mo

Both, but

4cm might be interesting. Mine are 5cm and they work nicely. I wonder how much more light would be lost through a tighter grid.
