Hi

I bought this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Blazzeo-60-x-90-cm-Photo-Studio-Softbox-Soft-Box-Diffuser-Universal-fit-UK-/370550936817?pt=UK_Light_Controls_Softboxes_Diffusers&hash=item56468e94f1

or one like it (mine is 80 X 120)

The fitting is not really suitable for my strobe though... too big.

So, how do i either get an adaptor to make it fit, or what strobe would be suitable?

Im looking to buy a new strobe anyway, so happy to get something that will fit this sort of adaptor.

Any advice welcome :)

That softbox fits everything - or nothing
The ProVersatile speedring is adjustable to fit any flash head between 85mm and 125mm diameter.
When you say 'strobe' do you mean a hotshoe flashgun? If so, you'd be better off selling the softbox and getting something that fits your flashgun.
AFAIK there are no adapters available

No, ive got several strobes, but they seem to small too fit the ring in the softbox (unless i put the screws in a lot, which leaves it quite precarious).

I think i need either an adaptor to fit in the ring to make it smaller, or a flash head with a lorger diameter "front". :)

Would this softbox fit on the Lencarta pro head? I've been eyeing that one up for a week or so now :)

It may well fit, but it will damage it, or at least leave marks on it - not really a good idea TBH

hmmmm, not good, so do i need a seperate adaptor or something like that then.....?
The softbox itself is fine, good size and weight.
I could use a DIY fix (a thick foam rubber band round the strobe end will do it) but would prefer something better.
Maybe i should buy a bowen S ring for the softbox...

That would be the best answer - but I don't know whether any would fit it.

it seems pretty standard, four rods going into a disc in the middle, its the inner ring thats a bit too big.

being new to this I hope I can work it out :)

A lot of eBay softboxes come with this "universal fitting". In reality it's not a very good fit (which is a big understatement!), and often leaves marks/scratch on the head because of the (normally) hard plastic screw end. Some lower-end flash heads, as in most eBay heads and Proline Apollos, don't have a fitting as such, so you can only use these softboxes (or variants of, because frontal diameters of eBay heads are all different). For more specalised light modifiers such as a beauty dish or background reflector, there is NO product out there AFAIK that can go on to a "universal-fit" head.

My suggestion for you is to get hold of a S-fit softbox speedring and see if that will work. Obviously to go down that route you'll also need a S-fit head (Bowens, Lencarta, Lastolite, some Interfit). Elinchrom speedrings are much harder to come by and and more expensive, and you will need Elinchrom heads. To use the new speedring you might need to cut down each rod by a few inches. Having said that, you will have a real problem if you need to lengthen the rods instead.

Always buy a flash head with a widely-available fitting, which means S-fit or EL-fit. It massively opens up your options down the line with those 101 different modifiers whenever you need them. "Universal-fit" heads will only ever take (smallish) softboxes and umbrellas, plus those few bits that came with the kit.

Cool, so whats a decent strobe for around £150 that has an S-fit or EL-fit head?

:)

Plan B is to remove the fitting from the existing softboxes that ive got, they will fit the strobe of course, but dont quite fit the softbox..... fun and games, all because im a skinflint :) lucky im not averse to a bit of DIY to save money :)

There are a few to choose from. Prices below do NOT include a reflector, which you don't want if you're only going to use it with a softbox - but it's a very good idea to get one because it adds a lot to the versality. The Lencarta standard reflector is £9.98, I can't find the Elinchrom one on the WEX site but the small wideangle one is £21.99

Lencarta SmartFlash 200, £106.99 with free delivery
Lencarta ElitePro 300, £166.99 with free delivery
Elinchrom D-Lite 2, £182.99 + £4.99 delivery
Elinchrom D-Lite 4, £223.99 + £4.99 delivery
