Hi all,

I recently picked up a Siggy 10-20mm f/4.0-5.6 EX HSM from Jessops, and compared to all of the reviews, I'm not struck by its sharpness. It seems a little soft to me, but I don't really know how to be objective about it. Is there anything I can do to test if it is a little soft? In reviews people seem to say its a fantastic lens 'if you get a good one'. Has anyone got an idea how I can diagnose the problem (if there is one)?

Cheers.

Mine is a bit soft too when wide open, gets better if you stop it down a bit.

Id take a few sample shots with it and various apertures and at various lengths and see what you think then.

I think at 10mm at the fastest aperture it tends to be a little soft, but i would still check through the ranges above

Take photos of a brick wall at various lengths and apertures - then post what you think are the soft shots here.

Thing is I wouldn't call f/4.0 particularly wide open to have problems with it. Can you not take it back to Jessops with your camera and try all the ones in stock till you get one you are happy with?

Im with Mattfeliks here, brick walls are great

OK, I will try the brick wall! I will post back in a couple of days with my results, and you can tell me what you think. Thanks.
