Soft box or beauty dish

I'm going to treat myself to either a soft box or beauty dish for portrait shots. Could someone please explain the differences in what I'd get out of each one.

Hi Joel,

I've just had one of these from Santa. Good price and it can be tilted down far further than most. It also comes with an additional arm that allows trhe flash to be set in the centre of the box for efficiency. Take a look
