or maybe even a Futon, though these look a little low to me

4

Or any others you can recommend, budget is around £150, thanks.

Futon will be more comfortable to sleep on...

Have to agree with this.
Never slept in a sofa bed that was truly comfortable.
Have you thought about a really good full height airbed?
They're like sleeping on a cloud!

The only thing with a futon is they look very low to the ground, are they comfortable to sit on?

Not really thought about an airbed Ruth, i could do with something to sit on in that bedroom though so that's why i was thinking of a sofa bed.

I think a £150 sofa bed is horrible indeed, however I've been on some very comfortable ~£1000 sofa bed. Good mattress including memoryfoam and sturdy build quality. Nice and even support indistinguishable from a normal bed.

I think one I experienced was from next and the other from the Chelsea sofa company iirc.

Pretty damn good bed with a built in memory phone ;)

If i had a grand for a sofa bed i'd rather sleep on the money :)

Get an intex air bed with built in electric pump. Costco do them for £39 iirc for a double. It is huge and very comfortable when you use it properly. Otherwise it will just be a compromise in my opinion.

I saw a really nice one in arthur Llewellyn Jenkins last month about £350.

An airbed is a great idea but i need something to sit on in the room when not sleeping in it.

I've never managed to sleep well on any sort of airbed, and the same can be said for a sofa bed so would be interested in seeing what this thread throws up, as we are after one (a sofa bed) soon..

I've just spent 2 weeks at my parents house in Italy, slept on a sofa bed the whole time i was there without a problem.

Ah, but are you old, with many once broken bones and all sorts of aches and pains that have meant not sleeping well for the last 35 years ?
I struggle to sleep even in my own bed, let alone any hotel or friends house...

There was a futon with a wooden base (like a pallet) that folded up to make a low sofa. Don't know if they are sill available.

Are those Intex beds with built in pump reliable? If the pump fails can you pump up with external pump?

Never tried it with an external pump. They seem to be more reliable than the normal ones we've had, and a lot more comfortable. Besides for the money you can't go wrong really.

We use an Aerobed on holiday in preference to the sofa beds that are in the cabin. It's a small inconvenience to clear a space and blow it up each night, but well worth it for the sleep and the raised height is a real bonus. I originally bought this on the recommendation of someone who had slept on theirs for a full year, so reliability doesn't seem to be an issue. Choice of sizes obviously, but even the kingsize comes in at your pricepoint and you can get them in Argos.

Find out the make and model then try to find the same here. Personally, I find sofa beds and futons extremely uncomfortable as either seats or beds. We have a sofa bed in the conservatory but that's had its innards replaced by a sheet of MDF which has made it acceptable for sitting on. Bought it from a charity shop cheaper than a sofa.

I took 4 sofa beds over to my house in Italy in 2007 they were £350 each back then, I've looked at them again and are to expensive now.
