Yes
couldnt see anyone else post this. Just saw on his twitter that he plans on bringing his onelight workshop to the UK soon.

Yep the one light workshop is coming in september, dates and venues to be anounced. I'll be trying to get on one, I guess they will be sold out realy quickly.
Mart

They aint cheap, but are almost certainly worthwhile.

I do wonder how different it could possibly be from his DVDs and from his 'very similar' CreativeLive / chase jarvis event he did the other day?

Kris.

Aparently the one light workshop has moved on a lot from the DVD. I didnt find the creative live event that similar, he covered a lot of the same stuff but so much more as well.
Mart

oooh - I may have to treat myself to see this!

How good is the dvd chaps? The cost of it looks a bit, well, to phrase the yanks, 'awesome'!!

Yep the Arias DVD is on the list I added it about a year ago. Well worth a watch.

It was very good, but I found a lot of similarities. Esp the first evening.

Oh well.

Already complained to Zack twice about him coming to UK when i'm outa the country LOL
In all seriousness would love to attend one off his workshops, seen the DVD, bought the Creativelive workshop and love his attitude/philosophy to photography.

Tickets for Newcastle go on sale at 0800 tomorrow morning
£525 per person - ouch!

I am not going. That is as much as a new body that I have my eyes on :(

I wonder if his favourite beverage had anything to do with the location?

The format sounds good, it suggests the course is useful for those wanting to turn pro - but then it says:
"You kind of understand aperture priority and depth of field but your technical foundation sort of stops there. I’ve created an intense three day workshop just for you"

so once you understand dof and AP, you go on a 3 day course and turn pro. I'm now confused whom this course is aimed at.

Seems like being on the mailing list was not worth anything and £525 is expensive for 1 day. Think I might give this one a miss.

No its the one light workshop. Thats a 1 day workshop.

Mart

£525 is not steep, it's f'in vertical!!

I saw 15 tickets go on sale as well, means he's taking £7.5k (minus costs) for 1 day's training, not bad...

I have paid far more than £525 per day for training. Just look at heavy duty cisco courses for example. The difficulty I have here is that the whole purpose of the course is to teach people to light cheaply - with one light !

£525 will get you a decent two light setup !

£525 for a one-day course? FFS!
The Joe McNally one-day seminar in Islington I attended was £100-ish.
OK there were 500 people there and there was no hands-on participation involved, but I'd bet we all came away with something useful... I know I did - I've been doing test-shots all week based on his set-ups...

I wonder if he priced the job in dollars? Given how weak the pound is and has been would have exacerbated how expensive the course is.

Thats probably true, the workshop is normally $800. I am a huge fan of his work and his attitude but I cant afford over £500 for a single day, plus travel and hotel bills.

So is £50,000 the going rate for a day of someone's training? Seems pretty outrageous to me.

If this workshop is in anyway similar to the one broadcasted via livestream some time ago, I wouldn't fork out that amount. He's not going to infuse you with creativity, is he?

You should see what people get paid for speaking at corporate events, for a lot less time.

Remember, for events like this you're not just paying for the instructor, you have to take into account the cost of

Joe + 2 assistants
NAPP Support crew (I counted 6, possibly more)

Day rate for Models
Cost of grip hire / shipping
Travel costs for the above from the US.
Food and Accomodation
Hire of the Venue

The same will be pertinent for the Zack Arias trip, he's got to cover

Travel, Accommodation, food, all those usual expenses.
Hire of venues.
Hire of models.
Shipping or hire of large equipment.

Plus, he's also got to cover the wages bill for himself, whoever travels with him and the studio that he's not working in when he's over here.

So, pull all the expenses out of 7.5K for the day then revisit it. He's running a business, not a charity.

Quite! Now when people moan about members (and of course, none members) doing weddings on the cheap... that's a whole different kettle of fish ain't it? ;)

It's going to be interesting to see how many takers he gets at that price, mind you he sold one ticket so far......
