So you want a studio of your own?

this was posted on strobist's blog almost as a comedy item... if it is real, and I can't see much reason for it not to be, apart from the comedy descriptions and relatively low prices...I could see it actually being quite a cool idea.

Event photogs, no space needed in a marquee or venue, added novelty etc...I'm working a large event next summer that one would definitely go down a storm at...

$500 inc a fan to keep it afloat, 3 minute setup :o

I'm guessing it might get quite warm in there.

Cool concept though.

It looks as though it's an adaptation of a military and rescue services concept.

I love the 'Important' section:

Do not use as a shelter in a flash flood! :D

I love the warning about lights getting hot and melting the studio! lol

I think if you are a child photographer then you would need a councillor the other side to calm the children after they had been pushed through the gap.

And if you shoot attractive girls the locals would wonder what the heck was going on inside :D:D:D

The best thing would be to see how th elocal traffic wardens would react lol lol

Damien?

Was that .be wise don't buy!'?

Only if it comes with a free sea king rescue............:razz::razz::razz:

I don't know why, but when I first saw this I thought it was a floating studio (c'mon, now that would be cool!), but now I've realised what everyone else did, it seems like a brilliant idea! Sort of :D

It's a little worrying that something that may well be a joke looks a good idea..

But it does doesn't it.

My only concern is.. well if you've walked across a bouncy castle (haven't we all!) then would it possibly be the same feel? Which whilst fun wouldn't be overly good - although, actually, it may take some great fun photos :D

Perhaps someone with enough room should set up a bouncy castle, think of the great shots of kids on it! :D

But errrm.. wouldn't it be as well to buy a small marquee and a hilite?

I've just found a 4 x 6 metre marquee for £300 from http://www.bigmarquees.co.uk/4m_x_6m_240gsm.html after all..

Although errrm... when googling and found that website, I looked at their products and found they also did.. inflatable ones. No, seriously - http://www.bigmarquees.co.uk/aireshelta.html - not quite like the original post but even so..

I have 30 bin bags, 10 rolls of duct tape and a hair dryer, anyone want to buy the DIY version ?? lol

I'd like to see the pics :p

Old vacuum cleaner hose attached to a car exhaust to inflate it?

dont forget the white swing bin liners for the appropriate bits of the insides :D

Seriously, no idea whether its real of not, but in theory its a good one, though useable circumstances mean still not always practical.

Yep, it has been ridiculed plenty all across the internet, and it might be fake, however, if this particular one is... soon there will be a non-fake version. I can see plenty of real, commercial applications for it tbh...

as far as I can tell, the whole structure is more like a big balloon, with you inside it, and air constantly pushing in - rather than a bouncy castle like structure where the air is blown into a sealed bit that you stand on top of. You can even direct the tube coming in from the fan to give you a blowing effect onto the model!

Plenty of live music festivals use an inflatable cover for the stage. Apart from the noise of the fans, I don't see any problem with the concept as a mobile studio.
The interesting thing would be to see if they can make something durable enough while still allowing light through if required.
