Hey,
my name is Markus, I'm 23 and originally from Munich, Germany (in before someone shouts BEERFEST) and had a 300D with the kit 18-55 forever it seems.. never really got into it and soon only used it whenever I put stuff on that auction site.
now I moved to London for a year and decided to get back into it. And because I'm a musician and we're kinda similar to you guys, I suffer from what we call GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) and replaced the 300D+Kit with a 40D and a Tamron 17-50, Canon 50/1.8 II and Tokina 11-16 after reading a lot of reviews of lenses online.
Much to my surprise (even though it's the same in music) that didn't fix the burned out skies and missed focus and pale colours and noisy shadows etc. so now I came to the conclusion that you probably have to learn how to use the stuff you hold in your hands. And that's kinda why I'm here. Especially after a week I just spent in scotland with so many beautiful places to take pics of that I couldn't manage to take properly I'm gutted and wanna do better next time. It really feels like I missed a huge opportunity for some good pictures..
I'm especially looking to improve on postprocessing and settings on the camera while taking the picture (my general procedure is to set it to "P" and then adjust on the aperture depending on the depth of field I'm looking to get. I have no idea whether thats a good approach) as I feel I'm at least not totally terrible at finding the right angles and crops in the first place.. the pictures just never come out as I imagine them.
So now I'm gonna scroll around here for some basic guides and hints and tips.. if you wanna point me in the direction, I'd really appreciate it. If you just wanna say "hi" that's very cool, too!
