Hey Guys,

I know one or two of you have classics and would love to see pics and read their stories.

This is my 1969 VW Crewcab, it was on foriegn plates when I bought it, quite scary buying a vehicle when all the docs are in African *lol*

I also have a 1972 VW Camper and a 1980 BMW R100RS touring bike.

So come on, show me yours :)

not got any pictures on me at the moment

but i have

1976 Rover P6 2200sc
1979 Clubman Estate whcih has had quite a bit done to it but needs a full nut and bolt job!

will post more info and stories tomorrow

as above, nothing here either :(

loving the vw thought

Glad you all like my truck, I wanted one for years, took me a long time to find this one, it just kind of landed in my lap at the right price :) The gear linkage broke recently, I'm going to be fixing that tomorrow and then its off for a respray as the british weather is getting to it.

same colour, or going for something new?

I was going to go with a modern metallic colour, something like this:

But have now decided to go for the same colour, keep the classic look.

I'm loving the crewcab too

Nothing here at the moment but it's something I've been considering for years - I'd really love a project car but where I live at the moment there's nowhere to keep one :(

I'm in a VAG enthusiasts' club and quite a few members have classic VWs (campers/Golfs mainly) and I've been really tempted to invest. Maybe one day...

Here is a pic of the other end

Projects are great, but they always have that horrible stage where you sit there looking at it wondering what the hell you are doing, been there with my wifes camper, it started like this:

Then had the depression point when it looked like this

But was worth it when it looked like this :)

Personally I dont like new cars, and would always go the classic way.

Dont know whether you would count it as classic but this is my Dad's B2 passat GL5 estate:

Nice mini :D So much fun to drive  Nice clubby in the background too. THose B2 passats have quite a following nowadays, ones in lovely condition like your dads are quite sought after.

What motor is in your mini? I had a 1275GT, they go like they are on rails :D

Thanks, me and Meg attend many a mini show together :) She is only a 998 mainly for insurance reasons, but ive grown to love it and am going to have another one fitted. But the new one is going to be bored out I think to make a fast 998. Plus mine 998 is much more reliable than my friends spi 1275, that is breaking down all the time, kinda put me off

My dad has had his passat since new, and it is imaculate, he will never sell it though, just like me with Meg.

ok heres the first story 1976 P6

this car was bought by my grandad when i was about 11-12, we did it up had it resprayed, fixed all its problems, it was his daily drive, about 3 month later he thought it sensible to pop his cloggs (very untimely tbh he could have stuck around a bit longer and taught me more!) and nothing was thought of about the car until my gran sort of mentioned 'well its sort of yours' it sat in the garage for pretty much 10 years doing nothing as i was far too young to drive it.
5 years ago a close family friend asked if i would drive her to her wedding in it, which i did (ill find pics). but since then its done very little, ive currently got the carb in bits trying to solve a fueling issue and hopefully i can get some miles in on it (seeing as its covered less than 100 miles in the last 10 years!), maybe ill try to get a few good runs in in it this summer!

its not a car that id ever consider selling or infact be allowed to by anyone in my family. its pretty much the last memory everyone in my family has of my grandfather and therefore it will stay. my main aim is to have the p6 properly restored towing his boat behind it.

tune in tomorrow for the story of UKB327V......

oh BOM, im very jealous of your dubs, suzie would love a camper but until we get a garage and a drive i cant plan any projects!

Meg

Its sad, we all name them! The truck is called "Bob Truck" and the camper is called "Monty"

swap the engine out for a MG metro 1275cc engine, stock so reliable but at the same time got a bit more thump in a mini

Cool story Whitewash, I saw the rover in another thread, lovely looking car. The joy of VWs is you can buy every part new still, a brand new basic carb will set you back just uner £100. I'm not keen on carbs, they are a bit of a black art as far as I'm concerned, good luck with it :)

Thats what I did, got it out of a metro GTA, its an A+ motor, fits straight onto the same subframe, easy job. Added a bigger carb and a sports exhaust, phwoar do they go :D I only paid £40 for the metro, I had the engine and my mate had the alloys, bargain

im more comfy with fuel injection systems but i served my engine building time on webers so the ol' skinners unions aint too difficult with a bit of knowledge, all the parts tend to be available from burlen in rebuild kits which is handy!

My local garage had a Metro Sport (same engine) in a scrap shell going cheap, i think i paid £50 for the engine and the brakes (4 pot vented setup), sold the ally inlet for £15, i then sold the brakes for £30 (they needed new nipples and pistons) and used the cash to buy another set of 4 pot calipers with nipples and a brand new set of pads, stainless pistons, seals, hoses the works!

you should see the price that MG metro engines go for now! its crazy, imglkad i have one in the car (****ed!) and another in bits in the garage! it really shifted the clubby and all that had was a twinbox barrymaniflow, a decent ally inlet manifold and a filter, oh and the all important BAP (fnar fnar) needle!

plan for mine is a 1380 with a fairly smooth cam, nice and solid but with enough poke. with a 3.44 diff, it;ll be reving its nads off at about 85mph but will give good acceleration where it counts!

I'm not suprised, things always seem worth far more once I've sold mine

1380, nice :D Such a good grin burning off posh new racers in an old banger looker of an estate

i was considering a vtec conversion but seeing as i spent so much time ensuring the front end was all standard (i wiped everything front of the engine out in an accident)- try finding genuine clubman inner wings let alone wings!. it seems such a shame to have to cut it out to fit an engine in, plus the fact that once you loose the Aseries, i think you loose the main part of the mini as well. so it shall stay aseriesD! i have seen a few articles about doing a kent conversion to a mini, whilst i dont see the gains being that worthwhile with a standard Kent engine, think of a 1700 twincam BDA in it..... just for the noise alone....

With a Jack Knight straight cut dog box to add a bit of whine :D
