Killer whale.............supposed to be a wild mamal, right

Grabs its captor and shakes her like it had a seal, then drags he to the bottom of the pool to drown her

ITS NATURE ........they shouldnt be kept captive in 40m tanks

I really dont care what others think but its a wild animal and it did what it was supposed to do My respects to the girls family but cmon it is a wild whale and an ORCA its not a pretty kitten

you may have missed some vital information here.. are you saying someone has been kileld by a captive whale?

TO ANY ANIMAL THAT HUNTS WE ARE FOOD............end of

I agree DM, we put WILD before a wild animal for a reason.

Spike

According to news reports it's the 3rd human fatality connected to this Orca. Beyond the ensuing debate that's donkey's years old regarding freedom Vs captivity, this b****r ought to have been put in the ocean after the first time. I'm sure the same argument is equally valid for big cats etc too.

Agree its done what its supposed to do ............let it free:thumbs:

two things
1) you pretty much say the girl was asking for it, and then say 'my respects to the girls family'. Massive massive contradiction.

2) I'm pretty sure most species were wild at some time, so by your reasoning nobody should have pets.

IMHO, whatever the rights and wrongs of it, the girl didnt deserve to die and it would be more respectful to bring up the subject another time.

Gary I never said she was asking for it and wild animals are just that, wild.....what has this got to do with what I said in the opening post:shrug:

animals do what they do best, which is survive and if it means hunting humans so be it, they are a much better species than us lot

in that case i misunderstood, but thats the way it came across.

still seems a but distasteful to bring the subject up now.

How is this now deemed mistastefull after images of death and destruction are posted on nearly all forums and death and destruction are posted in out of focus ............the last bad one was the skeleton bob sled death.........but you choose to pick on me for asking is it worth keeping a wild animal that will kill if it gets a chance.......how hypocritical can you get

To put any animal or mammal or whatever into a captive environment is against all my beliefs.
The only time I see a slight justification for this is when they are an endangered species and are being bred so as the species does not die out.

But to cage them and then teach them to do tricks for food is barbaric IMHO.

Rick I agree fully with all you say, and if one attacks a human?????

i'm not picking on anyone
I just disagree with you, and thought your timing is in bad taste. Just my opinion.
I dont think you've done anything to justify a suspension either.. Just voicing a different opinion to me.

I didnt see the Luge post, but from what I heard it got removed quite sharpish.

sorry Gary but why is bad news a bad taste thread, its never been bad taste before so why now

I think it's a fair point to bring up, it's something that is already in the news and has stirred up a debate in the media about the conditions some of the aquatic mammals are being kept in.
These animals are different from the domesticated animals we usually keep as pets because most of them have been caught in the wild and then trained after capture. I'm not surprised some of them suffer psychological problems when used in this way and housed in such cramped conditions.
I do feel sorry for the woman that died but I'm sure she knew that this was always a possibility when she started working with them, as do all wild animal keepers and trainers.
It would be great if the animals already in captivity could be freed but after a certain amount of time they cannot be returned to their natural habitat because they usually don't survive. I remember Keiko the whale in the Free Willy films who after a huge campaign set up to free him, died not long after he was released, which was very sad.
Personally I don't go to zoos, circuses or anything else that has captive wild animals that are used for entertainment purposes, I don't agree with it at all.
Sorry, was ranting a bit there, but it's something I feel strongly about.

Put the whale back where it belongs, problem solved........in a simplistic way.

I hate these type of "attractions".......

No you are picking on this thread for no reason which is online bullying just to show your importance, and as for get a grip..........whatever do you mean

Jeez, go to bed fellas............:)

youre losing the plot

i read your post, i thought it was distasteful, and I said so.. Just my opinion, not that of TPF (or anyone else probably :) )

OK so everything in OOF is distasteful or you like seeing men losing their lives in cars/speedboats or on bikes then, but when it comes to animals doing what they naturally do its a no no

yup, thats exactly what I said.
Just to recap - I think everything in OOF is distasteful. I also love seeing men losing their lives.. yup, you got me

and now I'm off to bed. You should probably do the same, then respond tomorrow when your red mist has died down.

i dont know you or you me but i do think that "so what" is a little harsh if it is read in the context of who cares.
if it were your sister or wife or a friend wouldn't you find the thread title insensative?
as for the whale being wild and shouldn't be in captivity im afraid while ever the human race allows it then thats what will happen and i can bet that as soon as the whale is put on show again it will be sold out for weeks.

its a shame the lady died and my thoughts are with the family tonight

So what was a record by the anti nowhere league...........:D

For the record.Killer whales are dangerous animals, like polar bears and tigers, just because we put them in captivity for some peoples titillation, does not make them less dangerous.

Shame the lass died, but she knew the risks and accepted them.Sounds harsh I know, but it is my honest opinion on the matter.

Thats just the responce I wanted Gary

sorry, i forgot to mention I like pulling the legs off ants, once insulted a cat and only helped an old lady 3/4 of the way across the road because I saw an ant that was looking a bit too confident with all its legs intact.
