So What Do You Intend to Photograph Next year?

Ok, as I said earlier today, been feeling a bit uninspired recently, had to force myself to go taking pics last night and very glad I did. A combination of that and spending some considerable time posting here today has got me itching to get out with the camera again, so that got me thinking. I have several things I really want to have a go at doing this year.

1 - some mud splashing! Either trials biking or 4x4's, but definately something fun and motorised and muddy.

2 - definately want to do a few more horse shows, a bit of showjumping, dressage, some horse racing again and maybe even some polo, having seen some stuff on here.

3 - the coast - and lots of it, rugged or seaside.


4 - finally, I really want to increase and improve on portrait work. Some more candid street stuff, but also, to bite the bullet and try out some serious studio stuff.


so, what are you lot aiming for over the next year?
 
1. Some motorsport...3 Sisters is nearby so there's no excuse

2. Main issue is going somewhere different....I always seem to end up at the same locations!

both answers are not taking into account that I will be a first time dad in Feb so everything might go out of the window!!!!
 
I think this is it, here is a few of mine
  • Get a new camara sorted out
  • Get to plan a day a week where i can go out and just take photos
  • Spend more time on my photos
  • Spend more time thinking about them and editing them before i post them anywhere
  • Make myself want to go out and take photos, even if it is raining
  • AND most of all, have fun whilst doing it

I think that sums up what i want to do :)

Pretty much all of Scotland, starting with the Castles!!! Lochs, Mountains and Wildlife. I just want to explore my thusfar "unexplored" back garden. I have lived here my whole life, and seen maybe 2% of the country.

The first big challenge is going to be the West Highland Way. 100 mile walk with plenty of photo ops!

I have been really interested in the exchange between Steve and CJ in the style thread. And I know I said that finding a style was not so important to me. But on reflection, I'm starting to doubt that comment. I think it would be nice if, when I come to do my end of year 2008 post, that there was a cohesive style or theme. I'm also thinking that I might have a go at doing the RPS Licentiateship. So that's a challenge too.

So, there you go. I guess the answer to the question is: I intend to take better photos next year.

/edit - also forgot to say - I had such a great time doing studio portraits for the 1st time (and thought the results were ok) that more of that would be good too
 
To take better photos.
 
Mostly a lot of horsey stuff which is what I really enjoy, other than my own sphere I want to go to a couple of local p2p's when they start, and there are some team chases that some friends go to which would be fun as well.

More landscapy and nature type things, and I intend to have a go at some more cropped sort of things which would be a lot more arty than my normal interests just for something different and to learn more about the camera.

Generally remembering little things like to take a longer lens if I'm going to a pond, and money for the pay and display in the car park, so I can take the tripod instead of having to park a mile away and leave it in the car because of the distance I then have to walk!!!
 
Loads of surfing UK and Europe.
 
I really want to take some more:

Landscapes
Cityscapes
Seaside shots
Macro shots of nature

Will hopefully be going to Turkey with the photo society here at uni, and taking Gandhi up on his idea of a beach trip :). Would also LOVE to take the world rally as well.

Would also really like to get myself a D300 and grip as I feel the camera body is the one thing I need to upgrade.

Lots of stuff for me, I'm hoping to build up a folio. After what I would call a "false start" (2 1/2 years of a degree in Computer Science), I have decided to do what my heart told me to do 3 years ago - something involving art, and I have decided to go for Photography and Digital Media.

I want to capture everything! I want to be braver and do some street candids, I want to be less lazy and capture the world when noone else sees it, I just want to take more and more shots!

I'm hoping to get an Eos 30D as well. :)

Bit bummed for ideas just now as my cameras autofocus isn't working and along with the viewfinder being tiny, I just can't get inspired!
 
I want to really nail portraits this coming year, also do some photojournalism and candid street photography.
 
more of the same i guess ust hopefully better at it............ as my comfort zone is architecture, im planning on visiting some of the castles that i have missed so far, as well as going back to ones i have already shot to get a better image from them! lol wishful thinking........ EdinburghGary, can i be so bold as to recommend a couple of castles for you..... Castle Campbell in Dollar Glen, and of course Craigmiller castle which offer terrific views!

Having got a 70-300 lens for christmas I am looking forward to doing some more BTCC shots. I'd also like to start looking at some landscape work as I've not done much of this so far.

I'm hoping to get out and take pictures of anything that inspires me :) Landscapes will probably feature quite heavily as that's what I feel most confident and relaxed when photographing. My upcoming move to Canada should come in quite useful ;)
 
Funnily enough, just been chatting about this to the wife, coming back from the supermarket. The idea I've had for a project is this. Entitled '22K', it's a photographic journey from our farmhouse into Saumur, our nearest large town. The distance, funnily enough is 22K! It's an attempt to show the different scenery, buildings and people along the way, stopping at each kilometre mark (or thereabouts) and taking a picture.

Again, one of my aims for 2008 is to get better at what I do, and to spend a liitle more time thinking about the final edit of the shot (after years of being a non-photoshop user), and not pressing 'send' before I'm truly happy with what I've done.

I came to photography through creating pictures for my nail competitions.
I enjoy having a theme to work my own ideas around, and so I have several more ideas that Id like to bring to fruition.

Unfortunately the more my eye has developed, the more pressure Ive put upon myself, and due to lack of technical ability & practice, my confidence got shot.
Therefore my aim is to put my pride on the shelf, get back to basics - and get some women through the door! :naughty:

Interesting point. I have been thinking lately that some of my stuff is utter rubbish compared to stuff I see on here, and yet when I post pictures I usually get a positive response, both here, where everyone is a tog, and even more so from non-togs elsewhere. I finally came to a similar conclusion - as my 'eye' improved, my expectation of myself increased probably much more rapidly than my ability and hence I think I have been too critical of myself. Someone said to me last night last that too much introspection can be a bad thing and you know what, he was right! 2008 is going to be my year to stop thinking too hard and to have fun with my camera again :woot:
 
Portrait work.. just need to find a local tutor or class...near Warwickshire...
 
I want to do some costal work, rocks and slow water type of stuff.

and some more studio work, cause i quite enjoy that.
 
Anything and everything! I don't want to tie myself to any "one" aspect, as I am still learning and don't yet have a favorite subject ....well, apart from my sons ;).

I really must stop thinking about shooting, and actually do it!

Oh...and as I treated myself to "Lightroom", I need to develop my processing skills too.
 
i want to take pictures of everything!.

but!

going to Le man for the 24 hour race in june,

hope to get up to scotland at some point, and the lake district and pensance too!.

doing a wedding in september for a member of the family,
and get some more wildlife too!

so as i said, pretty much everything...
 
Le Mans isn't that far from us, and somewhere I haven't been (except their out of town shopping), so may just do that myself if we're not too busy here. Paris is somewhere I adore, and we'll be treating ourselves to another Springtime long weekend there with friends again.
 
I just need to get out and actually start using my camera again. I haven't used it "in anger" since I dropped it in October and cracked the case a little. Plus, the dark cold nights here are no fun to be out in this time of the year. God, do I need some inspiration :shake: :shake:
 
For a few years now I've desperately wanted to shoot the Dakar Rally. Seeing as it starts in 5 days and I've not been hired to cover it yet, I guess 2008 wont be the year.

Perhaps 2009. :D

:lol:, I will also be taking mud splashing but it will be rugby!!!

Wouldn't mind doing what my Dad's doing and go to photograph gorilla's at Port Lympne for the day.

Would like to do the wolves as well.

Wouldn't mind taking some pictures of our friends' new baby when it arrives in the spring, I'm all broody so babies interest me :lol:

Also, our friend's girlfriend still wants some model type shots in the country park so will give that a go

I really need to try taking some people shots, haven't tried once!

I also want to do a bunch more wildlife photography, and try and really nail down a style to my landscape work.

But most of all I'm looking forward to doing a bunch of scanning electron microscope photography next term!
 
Well, I'm intending doing every round of the Scottish Motox champs next year, didn't quite work out this year for a number of reasons.

Next thing I'm planning is to do more people stuff. Did a couple of weddings this year and even though I'm not sure I'd like/want to do more I did enjoy the interaction. Maybe studio portraits, not sure yet :shrug:

I also want to do some football work. Couple of our customers are Scottish Premier sides and if I can possibly wangle a pitch side pass I'm going to do it :D

thats a beautiful castle, it rarely occurs to me to shoot that one as i spent a hgue amount of time in and around eilean donan ( my gran lived in Dornie and was a guide in the castle )

Well I definatley want to shoot more landscapes, its seems I have caught the bug for this type of photography. Make sure I get to at least one round of the british superbikes this year! I think I would like to shoot a couple more models this year, shot my first last year and really enjoyed it.
 
I want to improve my photography - not that difficult by my current standard. Try to get to some motorbike racing. Go to places that I haven't been to before and see what's there.
 
The Alps for a week this winter when I go skiing and hopefully the Pyrenees if I can blag the camera for a month there. Also I'm aiming to get up to Dartmoor a few times and go to a couple of costal area in Devon and Cornwall for some landscape and wildlife shoots. And last but not least I want to shoot the Vulcan some time this year. :)
 
I'll play.

I do a lot of commercial and portrait sessions, and generally get to do them in whatever way I want, which is fun. I need to continue on a few side projects I've never finished, though. The most important for me is a project of photographing unusual people; I've got magicians, fire-breathing midgets, carnies, "real" cowboys, and (next week) a Doc Holiday look-alike in my collection already, and am ready to expand it.

My bigger challenge for this year is not necessarily my subjects, but my camera choice. I want to do a lot more 4x5 work, particularly for the character studies. It forces a lot more discipline, and I could use that.
