Well it had to be done! With the other toy threads running, the 'iconic' dolls of our childhoods [well, certainly those of us of a certain age] had to get a look in too :lol:

I didn't actually have any of them, preferring 'art' materials and anything horsy related, though I do remember one particular Christmas Morning, my dad having to build the Sindy caravan and car for my sister and as the day progressed and he got gently more inebriated, he was to be seen dragging it around the living room with increasing levels of gusto and a frequently overturned caravan.
Another vivid childhood memory was visiting my mums boss at his home when I was about 9 or 10 and being sent upstairs to play with his daughter, who had a bedroom that was pretty much a Sindy palace, with every toy available sitting there. She had several Sindy horses, all of which she loved to bits... sadly she had the real thing sitting at the bottom of the garden in a paddock, something I would have killed for, and she was totally uninterested in it, had to be almost dragged down there to show me her little Welsh pony. :(

So come on, anyone willing to admit their doll? :D
 
Had a few Sindy bits and a tiny tears.
I grew up with three older brothers and was never much of a doll child.

I probably did have other dolls that I simply didn't play with bought by well meaning relatives, but the only one I remember having was a black Tiny Tears and enjoying the fact mine was different to everyone elses rather then the fact it was a doll. I guess there was always a risk I'd end up in the motor trade, given the drawer full to bursting of matchbox cars at my Grans house [we spent most of our spare time at Grans as my parents both worked full time and she only lived down the road so my fav toys were usually there] ;)
 
Did nobody watch James May's toy stories? Action Man and Sindy at Mach1+. Think it's on again tonight. Interesting that there is no interest at all in Action Man these days. But then again it's a doll, and boys don't play with dolls!

Yes, watched it the other night [I think its been on every bloody night on one channel or another] and also saw the Robert Webb 'Toys that Made Christmas' on whatever channel that was on last night too :D

I watched it. It was funny with that wind cannon hitting him at Mach 1 or strapped to that firework. Can you still buy Action Man? I had all his stuff from scuba gear to a tank and a helicopter and eagle eye action man. A great toy.
 
I thought the home made rocket that shifted the test rig across the yard was quite impressive. No wonder they wouldn't tell us what was in it!
 
I had One Sindy and a few Barbies but i'd probably have preferred Action Man.
 
I had an action man. It also had a Royal Military Police Uniform. My dad, was RAF Police, and the 2 groups shall we say didn't like each other much. Much amusement was had.
I had to make a jeep out of macarno, as the plastic action man one was expensive.
 
Built up a collection, over 3 or 4 years (Christmas/birthdays etc) of quite a few Action men & accessories, I think I got my first one for Christmas the year they were first brought out, circa 1965?

All the action men stuff had `stars` on the packaging, 1 for the smaller accessories - 5 (I think?) for the bigger more expensive stuff, & if I remember correctly, once you saved 21 stars you could get a free Action man figure! (a great marketing strategy!)

TBH, myself & my sisters were lucky (& spoilt) with toys........ My Dad worked as a rep for WH Smiths & we got stuff by the bucket load :cool:
 
Girls world is probably the one I remember most and tiny tears :eek:
 
I never had any Action Man or any of that stuff at all. I just played with myself and became pretty good at it over then years:cool:
 
All my old action man stuff is arriving on Tuesday with my parents. For my boys of course.

It's old stuff. I think I only ever had one with eagle eyes and grippy hands, the rest are the old ones like the bearded sailor and the deep sea diver with the gold helmet and metal boots.

As for dolls. My sister used to be mad about 'Pippa' dolls.
 
I have a vague memory of being given an action man at some point but IIRC it was almost immediately appropriated by my thieving sister ("Share nicely, Nod...") until I manage to get it back when I got an air rifle. MUCH more satisfying to shoot him with the darts rather than pellets since the pellets don't leave a mark! Serves him right for deserting.
 
As already mentioned in one other thread, I still have an action man and sometime use it for indoors still life photography projects. Well, at aged 47, it is a good excuse as any to carry on playing with toys. I don't think the kid in me will never go away.
 
I've no idea if Action Man was around when I was a kid, but I don't remember it anyway. My daughter never showed any interest in dolls, but she'd have loved the pony you mentioned Yv! She learned to ride on a Welsh pony called Candyfloss - a real Thelwell pony - with a bloody minded attitude, and she's still riding 25 years later.
 
Never had an action man. Did have a rambo figure. Also had lego, meccano, transformers and other toys of the era.
 
I also remember visiting my Aunt Edith every Tuesday evening as a kid and being allowed to play with her (then grown up) son's Tonka Toys.
They were all old but perfect and in their original boxes.
It was a real treat :-)
 
I also had a fair bit of My Little Pony. Hopefully soon my dad will get it all down from the loft so that my little lady can have it although she appears to want to play with boy toys like her big bro.
 
I was horrified if anyone referred to Action Man as a *Doll* :eek: only girls played with dolls!

I also had a 'Johnny Seven' gun that was the envy of my friends but then again some of them were in possession of the 'Secret Sam' attache case.

They probably work for GCHQ now ;):cool:

I always wanted one of those too. Never got it though :(

I always wondered though, if Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?

Same reason a lot of people feel they need too, and young good looking girls marry rich old men ;)

I always remember getting life size baby doll and a huge pram one year, in an effort to make me less of a tomboy :(
Doll was left on the bedroom floor or kicked under the bed, pram was great for racing around with friends sitting in
my mum was less then happy:D

The only pram I had got dismantled a couple of years later so the wheels could be used to make a 'ragger' [cart, trasher, whatever they were called where you grew up] with a couple pf planks of wood and the boys next door as cohorts in the venture. :D

Yep that's how mine ended up, troublei s the brakes never quite worked did they ;)
another thing I got in trouble for :)
