BBC News - Police MAY be allowed to use Plastic Bullets as from tonight.

Yup! They're all getting a 'BB' gun from the Pound shop

Yes and I stand by it. If the situation is beyond the police's ability to resolve it get the army in. I have no problem with that whatsoever. These people abandoned the law. I didn't ask them to, nor did the shopkeepers and home owners who have been burnt out.

You still haven't said by the way what you would do other than put more police on the streets. Explain how they're going to do that please. Open the door of the wagon and ask them politely to step inside?

Yup the little scrotes need a lesson that "actions have consequences".
I stand by my suggestion earlier, the the Royal Marines and the Parachute Regiment, have lots of vey nice quiet people that will ask you to do what they say once and, if you choose to ignore them they arrange free trips to hospitals.

The only thing these people understand is violence so let them have a taste too.

No, all the pound shops will have been looted and had the biros stolen so that these oiks can fill in the police 'brutality' complaint forms before they get arrested...

BBC:

1651: Birmingham police say they have arrested five men and two women in the West Midlands in relation to property stolen during last night's disorder. Officers say they recovered items of designer and sportswear worth several thousand pounds and electrical items from some of the addresses.

:thumbs::thumbs:

Granted! But he is getting both barrels of ad hominem abuse from the hang-em brigade who weren't on the streets with you last night either!

you seem to be missing the point - I'm aware that i wasnt on the streets with Demi last night (though i have photographed protests in the past, so i do know what its like to be bricked and bottled - ive got a 2inch scar on my head from the latter) - but i've already said that theres no way i'd have gone onto those streets and i'm in awe of those like mark who did , and crucially i'm not claiming to know more than he does about the rioting

laudrup meanwhile seems to think he knows better than those on the spot despite not only not being out last night but as far as we know having never been in that position , and also hasnt even got the balls to turn down marks offer of an 'excursion to hell' honestly, instead offensively minimising the risks people like mark are taking (describing the rioters as a bunch of kids on bicycles) and claiming that he wouldnt learn anything from it :cuckoo:

He'd also get a sight less abuse from the membership in general if he didnt keep setting out to deliberately p people off.

Quite a few pages ago now I did suggest deportation to some uninhabited Southern Hemisphere Island.

Sorry, I didn't spot that. Islands are good - as is the Arctic.

If the police are allowed to use some force tonight I'm awaiting all the cries of 'police brutality' tomorrow. They can't win. But I hope the tide of public support is now in their favour, at least for now.

According to facebook its Huntingdon.

nothing on the news wire about that

the way this is going though i'm waiting for the disaffected youth to kick off in Branscombe (where i am now)

when they do I shall give both of them a thick ear and send them home to their mum.

I read that the protest only turned violent after the police batoned a 16-year old girl to the ground. Also read disturbing reports of Duggan being dragged out of the taxi and then shot whilst he was on the ground. Don't know why everyone automatically believes the police/media's side of the story.

If this is correct then they would be dealt with by the law like the policeman is now over the newspaper man that died.
People shouldn't take the law into their own and maybe now we need to crack a few heads and do away with this kid gloves and stop listening to the tree huggers and start punishing kids If they are bad not send them on holidays because they are misunderstood.

Trouble in Wolverhampton now.

from wolverhampton local radio (the wolf 107)s website

"West Midlands Police say that despite a number of claims on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr, there's been no reports of any looting here in Wolverhampton. "

I think there are a lot of sad little trolls sitting on twitter and facebook starting these rumours because they've nothing better to do.

Persopnally i'll get my info from the news wire and place like bbc 24 - not some fantasist on farce book

(just to add i'm talking about whoever posted the original report on FB , not CT who's only reporting it in good faith)

Sky have just reported from West Mids police that there is some disorder in Wolverhampton.

Now Oxford, High Wycombe and Reading apparenty. :(

minor disorder in oxford, nothing reported in high wycombe or reading

Thames Valley Police said there were many rumours on social networking sites about riots in the area, some of which were "untrue or greatly exaggerated".

Deputy Chief Constable Francis Habgood said: "However, there has been some minor disorder across the force area.

as per my post above there's a lot of untrue rumours flying about - and imo repeating them isnt really helpful. Could i suggest that people at least give the source of their report

There was a little trouble in Reading last night...

Thames Valley Police have set up a twitter feed, for anyone in the area...

The funny thing is, I think the social change might now start to happen automatically. I can forsee this week causing a vast backlash against the underclass just as people have turned out today to clean up last night’s mess. I suppose that's the best example so far of “The Big Society” in action and this rioting could turn out to be David Cameron’s government’s “Falklands War”

But then again if it gets much worse, my Plan B is just to quit London altogether and join a hippie commune in Scotland! ;)

Nail - head.

I'm off to Wiltshire! :D

BBC News - Looting shops in Salford and a BBC cameraman has been assualted.

Correction - further info shows that it's Newham, Prince Regents Lane.

Just heard on the news - they reckon £100million pounds' worth of damage so far...

part of the problem is that every outbreak of disorder is now being described as rioting in media hype - one incidence of arson (the headington macD which is notorious for trouble) , a car on fire, and a small group of youths fighting with police is pretty standard for some parts of oxford , but today its being reported as rioting with the implication that its just like tottenham which in patently isnt

simliarly in wolverhampton sky are now reporting 'some disorder' which is a large step from the streets running with blood

likewise in Bristol there was a punch up with about 100 youths swiftly dispersed by somerset and avon, which isnt unknown either - there was a larger kick off than that on may the 8th.

i'm not saying that anyone here is making stuff up or exagerating small incidents but some people on twitter and facebook definitely are

This is an incredibly telling post by a police inspector (the bold emphasis is my own) :

The next 48 hours are vital for British policing.

If we fail to protect the law-abiding public once more, we will cease to exist in our present form, and rightfully so.

We could end these riots very quickly.

We need the PM, the DPP and the Attorney General to guarantee in writing that no officers will be ‘served up’ like PC Harwood, and we could close them down in a day and a half.

But that will never happen and no doubt people will die as a consequence. Boris bottled the ‘baton round’ question earlier on TV.

Now the public can meet the people we have been made to call ‘customers’. It’s not very nice. We have been saying this for years but no one listens. Well, they are listening now.

It’s embarrassing to be a police officer (again) at the moment. As for the 450 we have arrested, we all know nothing will happen to most of them. It never does, I say it again and again.

As I’ve said so many times, this is so far from a police state it’s untrue.

So here is the challenge: give us the legal authority in writing and a guarantee of support if we use force and we will sort it by Wednesday tea time.

Source : http://inspectorgadget.wordpress.com/2011/08/09/the-next-48-hours/

The immediate remedy seems so so simple, yet no one has the balls to put their name to it.

I really hope what has happened/is happening this week is making people sit up and notice at the first bolded line above. THIS is the society that we live in.
