Surely at this point the majority of public opinion is with the police and the innocents who have been robbed and injured. Knowing that, I would hope the politicians will now be worrying less about being knocked off their perches and will focus more on supporting the police and putting a swift end to this. Even if it is a bit late. It seems incredible that several nights of violence have occurred without the authorities allowing the police to do what is necessary to stop it - presumably due to fear of reprisals in the media and criminals who bleat if they're so much as touched during the arrest process. I hope that stage has now passed. Much of the world must be laughing at us.

What do the rest of you think will happen tonight? Is this going to spread to more cities or towns before something is finally done?

Lindsay, if the BBC interview with those sickiening girls is anything to go by we could see more trouble tonight. The government would have been far better to deploy swift harsh action rather than letting it linger for the world to see. I would have consented to that!

You can assume whatever you like, but I'm not surprised at your reluctance to get on to the ground that you seem to have so many opinions about.

As for what you'd learn...

Why it's happening
Who is doing it
What their motivation is
What potential solutions there are
etc etc etc

If you want to be a political commentator then you need to understand all aspects of a situation, not just what you've read in your chosen media outlet. Until you actually have real hard experience then you are just regurgitating hot air and fabricating directed opinions - and we all know what everyone possesses apart from opinions.

As I surmised you appear to be an armchair theorist with nothing to back up your analysis. You have had an offer to actually experience what is going wrong with the country and yet you aren't interested in the slightest; the way that you turned it down is glib to say the least.

As far as I'm concerned any comment that you make on this matter is now pure frippery.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to traipse to London to watch 17 year olds on bicycles acting lawlessly. If I wanted to do that I could stick my head out of the window on any given night.

As for why it's happening, they like aggressive late night shopping, who is doing it, disaffected opportunistic looters between 11 and 20, what their motivation is, free stuff, what potential solutions there are, deploy more police.

Unless you know differently?

You can bleat on about savage justice all you want kiddo. It's not like I am calling for the death penalty here. Violence and criminality seem to be the only language these oiks understand so I reckon that's what they need in return. If you actually looked up from your screen once in a while then maybe you would understand.

You need to get a grip little one. There is a very high possibility that the streets where I live will be targeted this evening. If that is the case I will be outside cracking the ****ing skulls of any little **** that comes near my house. If you want to sit high up there and say you would not do the same then you are a liar.

There is also the distinct possibility that you are a horrible little internet troll that just likes to stir up ****. .

Same, there have been rumours/reports of looting and such near me, with the probability of it kicking off tonight.

I'll be gathering some pals and fighting back vigilante style if it does

It's difficult not to stereotype all of todays youth when you hear things like this. It's the exact uneducated nonsense that I've come to expect of them (and I say this because all the kids I know seem to be like this).

I would put them down for the sake of humanity.

So your own opinion changed to wanting savage justice meted out when your own friends were under threat? After all of the blood, teeth and hair are swept up you are worse off than when you started.

I'm so happy I paid the extra £10 for this keyboard, it has a special ignore button - comes in very handy at times

So you've noticed the stealing, but turned a blind eye to the arson, violence, disorder.....?

Sniding a CD out of HMV in your pocket VS Burning down a furniture store, or setting fire to cars with people inside? What were they trying to get there? Trying to make off with a "free" sofa? That's attempted manslaughter/murder, that's not petty theiving. The punishment/deterent should fit the crime. Tougher tactics and measures are required, the softly softly **** just isn't working....evidently?!!!!

It seems that this young man is just a left wing extremist who is anti-everything. Who doesn't actually have any clue of that it speaks. He is giving us people on the left a bad name.

You set yourself up as an extremist of any type and you have to be prepared for the reactions your behaviour deserves.

Wait a minute.

I'm not the one who raised trust as an issue here but I am asking why you would advocate using an organisation you don't trust to resolve the current issues? Don't keep answering questions with a question to try to deflect the issue.

What other alternative do we have?

That disgusts me.
They don't stop to think that most business poeple have made it from nothing but just because they have a business doen't make them rich!!
What total parasites!

I heard that interview on the news at lunchtime and it made my blood boil!!!!

I wonder how many of these scrotes actually have iPhones, games consoles and the latest trainers/clothes?

This only goes to prove they are completely clueless and it's growing evidence of this "Me Me Me" generation who EXPECT to be given a job, EXPECT to have a car, EXPECT to be given somewhere to live and EXPECT all of life luxuries which the vast majority of us work our nuts off for!!!

I mean my 11 year old Ford Focus could do with replacing but what with mortgage payments and a monthly fuel bill of over £200 per month I can't afford it so by their logic I can go an trash my local high street? Actually, there's a Ford dealership down the road, might just go grab myself a new set of wheels from there :shake:

This lot need a dry slap and be brought back into the real World where hard work is needed in order to get the "nicer" things in life (in fact right now hard work is only getting a lot of people the basic stuff!!!)

They will be breaking in to steal tills most probably, and I'd assume burning down the stores to destroy any forensic evidence. They obviously need caught, and their own unbridled braggadocio will probably ensure it, but it will take time.

Oh PERRRRLEEEEASE!!!!!

"Destroy forensic evidence" seriously, what planet are you from!!!!

A lot of these little scrotes aren't old enough to know what their ****s [edit] that was meant to be a word for "penis"/shortening of the name Richard[/edit] are actually for yet let alone worry about destroying forensic evidence!!!!

You give them waaaaaaay too much credit!!

They are animals with no respect for anyone or anything and think they can do what they like, when they like and suffer no consequencies....PERIOD!!!!

I found it quite amusing the way that the guy on LBC, Cristo Foufas was desperately playing down the race issue whenever on of his callers brought it up and then one phoned up to tell the story of how he had pleaded with the rioters not to trash his shop and succeeded.

"Did they say why they let you off?"

"Yeah, because I'm black"

"Err, err, but it's not a race thing, right, right??"

Good point

ARMY. Get in, go as hard as you need to to get this under control.

Shut down facebook, twitter and the BBM network for a few days. Sorted.

What other alternative do we have?

And that sums it up. You have no argument, you have no case, you have nothing other than some stale rhetoric that you thought sounded good at the time but doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

We don't need an alternative. We have a perfectly good police force in place. What we need is for the politicians to equip them and release them to get on with it.

It may however be too late. Maybe the military will be required because of the scale of what's happening.

And you answered with another bloody question

That is why the people at the top earn the money they do, because they have to make difficult decisions impartially rather than based on emotion.

Indeed. I've just had notice from a friend who's son has been watching this on TV, with his mates, and apparently they were overheard planning to go to one such area to join in the looting. After all - these shops and businesses are insured, right? They'll be up and running as normal in a day or two as if nothing had happened, according to these little morons who have no understanding of how hard it will be for those business owners to get back on their feet. These are so called 'good kids' from professional families. When furiously challenged by the parent, the boys seemed to feel there was nothing to stop them and no real prospect of being caught or punished - likewise they would draw upon their 'rights' if the mother or father attempted to discipline them or stop them. In short, they viewed it as entertainment.

Thanks to the approach of those on high and our resultant passive society, this is the message now being widely being transmitted throughout the UK. I am dreading tonight's news.

And then you come along, with flawed logic and little or no understanding of the way things work and make sweeping statements that you are unable to back up....

Tell you what, if/when I'm fortunate enough to have kids they WILL be disciplined and taught right from wrong and that if they step out of line they WILL be dealt with accordingly!!

May sound Draconian but if it means they wont end up this kind of mentatlity then so be it!

If they shut down Twitter I'll be donning a bally :)

The other side of the coin; my sons are disgusted with what they are seeing. They want drive into London to help support the business owners and residents to stand their ground and say no to these people. My sons are from an honest hard working family but rich? no.

Your argument seems to boil down to 'releasing' the police from one of their principles thus creating more carnage and resentment. It's a simplistic and uncultured solution.

You'll be what?

'Donning' = putting on

'Bally' = balaclava

I hate that I know the vernacular, one of the guards that worked for me in my shop was quite a bad lad and I now know a lot more street slang than I would ever want to know!

if they are they really are morons. show me a store that leaves cash in the tills overnight rather than a really heavy thick metal safe..

We aren't dealing with criminal masterminds here.

Uncultured solution?? Do you really think we look cultured??
I can only think you are in a tweed conservative timewarp and has no idea of what real life is about. :bang:

... and let's hope that those helping the clean-up can do so in safety. I'm watching the news in the background and Boris Johnson is trying to reassure frightened and outraged residents that tonight will be different. Let's hope so. There seems little point deploying more officers if those officers aren't allowed to assert themselves firmly. Clearly the population has had enough and would surely back a harder line.

Amen.
If I caught any kid of mine involved in something like this, they would wish they would have never have been born.

I really hope once this has calmed down and they start processing the CCTV and knocking on doors, the parents get as much punishment as the kids involved do.
What sane parent would allow thier child do carry on like this..
Prime case for sterilisation methinks.
