I need to pay off a debt so the lens (canon 300mm f4 is L) has to go. And because its not a situation of wanting to sell it, just makes the situation worse. :dummy:

Can something not be sorted with who you have to pay the debt off to? I was also in my younger days (I'ld like to think I'm, not old now) in serious debt and managed to arange with all the companies to pay off over a period of time! Managed to pay the bulk off a couple of years ago and the feeling was ace...

It's a royal PITA being forced to sell but normally talking with the company involved something can be worked out...

 Its not a company. Its my ex. :bang: He bought the lens for me, but then we split up.

Keep your chin-up; at least you can look yourself in the mirror and say you've been wise and mature about the situation!

Most people, these days, live on credit and go into denial about the severity of the situation. You've done the right thing.

When the time is right, you will buy another one of them sexy glass, and you will enjoy it ever so much.

Yes, I've been there, had to sell many things that I've loved and cherished; fate was then good to me :)

We could start a Save Sqizza Glass Campaign my heart goes out to you having to sell something you adore xx

Ouch... Been there before as well :(

You'll get another one if you have to sell it, it'll give you a target to save for :D

if it's NOT sold yet, I'm in for a fiver...

although if he "bought it FOR YOU" why give it back..?

pity when this happens - my wife and I divorced quite pleasantly which made a stressful decision a little easier. Even got an invite to her wedding.!

No didn't go - didn't think new groom would appreciate ex-husband going...:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:.........:lol:

Sarah............dont forget...if you buy a new lens for yourself...it will be YOURS with no old memories attached !

Sarah, as a gift it is yours? or do you feel morally obliged - or maybe its a joint debt you have to pay. Maybe you can rummage and find other things to sell to make the money or maybe pawn it - not sure on how pawning works but assum you still own the lens and borrow against it and when you have the cash you get the lens back?

No he bought it on the basis that I pay back. Which is more than fair enough. I felt lke thats all I could sell to get money. (I'm a student, and am at uni 4 days 9-finish which can be 5 or 6 even later, so havent much money at the moment.

To be fair I spoke to him today, and he's willing to let me pay back the debt in my own time, so I just wanted to say that I am more grateful than I can say. So a big thank you to him !

Good on him, in a nice sort of way, at least ytou get the lens and he is happy and so are you.

Try to pay it back real quick too that way he will never be on your back, ex's should stay ex's .

Good luck

spike

Hows the date asking going anyway?????

Well, if it's your ex, why not just do what all my ex's have done....tell him he's not entitled to anything.... :D

That's good to hear! If he bought it on credit, pay more than the monthly to pay it off faster and save yourself interest. If he handed over the cash - work with him to find a practical and achievable 'payment plan' and, I know it sounds daft, but scribble the agreement on the back of a fag packet and both of you sign it......that way you are both committed to the deal and no-one can bitch at the other.:)

"Ex's eh, would be a lot less painful if you could just shoot them ... "

Camera or gun??? ;)

Grats on being able to keep the lens :D That must have put a smile back on your face :D
