... and registered here! HELLO :D

Needless to say, i've got a few questions for you all:

I'm eyeing up some expired medium format film on eBay. In what ways does expired film affect the end outcome of the photo?

Also, I'm looking for cheap places to get some processed, being a student and all. I've searched already and come across Peak Imaging, but for £4 + postage I was wondering if supermarkets like Asda processed it? I mean, my shots aren't going to be near spectacular the first few time so it might be worth getting to grips with the Holga the cheapest way possible.

Thanks

 Welcome first of all, there are plenty of film users hereabouts that will have loads of good advice.

As for expired film, I am certainly no expert, all I can tell you is that I used some past sell by date film a while ago and the resulting prints were distinctly grainier than one would expect from them had they been in their prime.

Asda, medium format...hmmm.....

It depends really on how the film has been stored. Heat and humidity will decrease the longevity of film and this will have a bearing on how your prints turn out.

Personally, I have processed black & white film that had past the expiry date by three or four years and have managed to make acceptable prints from them. The contrast can alter somewhat, and possibly it's a little grainier than normal - I'm talking specifically about 400 ASA film, but I have never really had any problems with them.

I very rarely use colour film and I have never processed it myself so I can't really comment on that, but I would imagine you would start to get colour casts if the film is very old.

Welcome to the forum :)

Arrhh! Expired film. As other have said, it all depends on how the film has been stored. But if it is on Ebay then it may only just be passed its "best before" so you should be ok.

Colour Film aimed at the amateur market is designed to sit on shelves for long periods of time without any degradation to the film.

Asda and 120 film  I doubt it, best place to start and try is if you have a local Jessops to hand.

But I am sure a couple of others will be along that can recommend places to get film developed.

I use http://www.the-darkroom.co.uk/ for my 120 stuff.

It's a Holga, does it matter if the films out of date? it'll be blured and probably have light leaks all over it anyway;););) Wayne

Expired film, sounds good on a holga to me.

dunno about processing, i got 2 rolls sat here from last summer haha

And Welcome!

Actuall B34 if you PM me your address I'll chuck a couple of rolls of OOD 120 film in the post, I can't see me using it in the near furure, and it'll give you something to test out your Holga.

Never have truer words been spoken :lol::lol:

-I read somewhere however, that the new "lomo" sold holgas (cost about £60) are *slightly* better quality, and have LESS (not no!) light leaks.

Wasn't expecting that!:D

Thanks for the offer, i'll PM you, and I'll be sure to post my first attempts up here.

I'm welll looking forward to getting the Holga now, been doing a fair bit of reading. Shame about the 2 week wait from Hong Kong haha

I think i'll go ahead and get a few rolls off eBay as well, I can tell I'm going to fall in love with the whole hit and miss quality to the Holga's.
