Some welding glass, the problem is how do i go about fitting it to the camera ?

Have thought about buying a cheapy Uv filter and glueing it (some how ?)...

Any help would be gratefully received.....pics of a set up would be an added bonus...

Cheers Graham.

I bought a 77mm ring adaptor for a couple of quid and super-glued it to that. Its really for sliding the cokin filter holders onto but it does what you need.

Think I got it from this guy on ebay.

Just make sure you get the correct size for your lens (if it's not a 77mm)

if you're using the 450d and the kit lens, then get a 58mm cokin filter adaptor ring, and some bluetac. Fix the ring to the filter with a "sausage" of bluetac, so that no light can leak in the edges between the adaptor ring and the glass. The filter ring will then just screw into the filter threads on your kit lens. Simples, and works a treat for me.

Thats exactly what the glass will be going on,will the ring adapter screw onto a uv filter or will i have to remove the filter first ?....Cheers..

Should be able to screw into it - though it may vignette a bit at the wide end, and you would really be better with a single layer of glass over the lens in case of any stray light and reflections.

Personally, i'd take the filter off

I just use the colkin filter holder with the correct size ring for the lens i'm using :)

I tried that, but the glass is too thick to go in to the holder. At a push I might be able to ram it in, but it looks like it would damage the P-size holder.

I doubt there's a standard thickness for these though!

I started out with blue tack and a cokin ring but it resulted in really odd flare when light struck it at the right angle.

I bought a 77-82mm step-up ring and got a man at a glass workshop to cut the glass down to that size (cost £1 I think), then supergled it in and sealed the edges with blue tack. being 82mm the mount doesn't even show up at 10mm.

I noticed something similar with my sigma 10-20 - I think it might be the light hitting the edge of the glass - I just taped the edges with black electrical tape and didn't get the problem again that day - haven't tried since, but the stepup ring idea sounds like a good idea!

I just blu-tacked mine to an old uv filter and gaffa taped every bit of the glass except where the light will enter the lens. Seems to work fine for me!

I've only ever had a quick play with this but i had no filter on, put the lens hood on backwards, put the glass on & hook some twacky bands over the glass & on to the lens hood. Something like that anyway
