Hi All,

I have a Canon 350D with a standard EF-S 18-55mm lens. I want todo more portrait photos as i live near a castle and cathedral in the country.

Is there any need to change the lens or is there a better one i could be using???

Cheers guys & girls

Hiya,

Have you tried with the lens you already have? The 55mm end would be a good place to start. I'd also thoroughly recommend the 50mm 1.8 which is nice and cheap.

There's loads of better lenses, the 18-55 is just a kit one.

It really depends on your budget?

Cheers guys.

I have a budget of 100-150

Hi

The 50mm 1.8 can be got new for £75-80 and is a great lens.

The 55-250IS lens can be got for around £150-170 and is a cracker of a lens, fitting in nicely with the 18-55 kit lens

Hope this is of some help ...

I was in similar situation, I went for 50mm 1.8 and don't regret it, cheap, and great fun especially when taking portraits.

I've recently got the 50mm 1.8 and the 55-250IS for a combined total of £172.50. Both great lenses and both sharp. The 50mm is the better option for portraits though as you get better DOF effects.

the classic budget setup is a 18-55 IS, 55-250 IS and a 50 f/1.8 (nifty fifty). This covers a multitude of uses and focal length.

Personally I find the 55-250 better than the 18-55 at 55mm, and leave it on the camera quite a bit.
