Dear occupier
Well they know who lives here, as I / we pay council tax

In order to know who is eligible to register to vote, we need to know who lives at that address
As above

This form is NOT a registartion form but you do need to complete it
FFS!

The information you provide will enable us to send you a separate registration form
What happens if no one at this address votes?
Why do I need to fill out the form?

If you don't provide the information you may be liable for £1000 fine"

Bureaucracy at its best!
Why aren't they honest and say that its part of a census?
And nothing to do with voting?

Did you fill in the correct form for this thread to be started,if not could you please go to Dept S and fill in form 2345689000/5557889 and take it to dept E and fill in form 345678933/0 before posting said thread :D

But as you have started said thread, you still need to fill in said form, and please make sure they are stamped by each dept, and submitted in correct order :p

I got the same 'form' through the post yesterday :D

And nothing to do with voting?
It is to do with voting. The system changed from household registration, where the "head of the household" listed everyone eligible, to individual voter registration, so they need to know who lives at a particular address so they can send them registration forms, although online registration is also possible so those living in families where parents don't approve of unmarried daughters voting (or something equally ridiculous, but apparently does happen) can just bypass the controlling family members and register themselves directly.

This is a good thing, the old system was flawed.

Well *if* no one in this household votes then it seems pointless.
So why the threat of a fine?

We had one of those forms after the council refused to take away the second bin that they gave us. They'd wanted all sorts of details so they could restrict our bin usage.
Apparently we weren't entitled as we only had four in the house, rather than 5 and if we wanted to discuss then we had to take time from work and go into their office during the working day, wait to be seen. Handy for working people.

So I pointed out there were 6 in the house (my son and wife had moved back in for two months sold their house waiting on new house purchase) and we also had in laws all day for 4 days a week.

NOT WITHOUT A MEETING!

So I told them to come collect the second bin and rammed it full of rubbish. Me and the neighbour put as much possible in it from our bins, rammed it in tight, board on top jump on it, ram in some more sort of thing. Apparently the jobsworth came out to ensure we'd put the bin out and was going to fine us if we hadn't. It was so heavy he had to help put it on the lorry and he got bin juice over his clothes...

If you think that's bad, try going to India. Beurocracy gone mad over there, forms in triplicate needed for absolutely everything. All jobs for the boys of course. Even getting a tourist visa is a mammoth task, right down to the fact that the photos they request aren't standard size passport pictures. They briefly introduced a system where you had to go to one of six visa offices in the UK for an interview and submit to biometric testing before they'd grant a tourist visa. It's been suspended now due to the volume of complaints but no doubt it'll come back.

Naturally it is based on British best practise.

I can't stand those forms, such a waste of tax payers money. Why write to a house hold or address, if people want to vote make them responsible themselves to ensure the correct details are on file.

And as I said above they have the info on file, as to who lives here, because of the poll tax / coucil tax / rip off tax ( I know who I blame ;) ) what ever its called these days.
So I agree, If I want to vote I'll register, I don't take kindly to the fact that if I don't do it, I'm liable for £1000 fine.
Its kinda heading towards making voting compulsory ;)

And I have proof, my son moved out for awhile so I claimed single occupancy,
it wasn't long before they were writing to me to check that *Son* still wasn't living here, and where was he living if not ;)

I've got a feeling this is some stupid civil servants interpretation of avoiding that certain groups in certain cultures are not excluded. They should easily be able to address directly, however even when they do, it is still stupid and a waste of money. Something that can easily be stopped and money saved.

Together with manually counting and printing cards etc and paying all people involved handsomely. Ffs it is 2015 if a motorway services can have an electronic exit poll then surely we can vote electronically.

Not voting, registering to vote.
And it's already compulsory.
Don't fill it in. Then they'll send someone to the door, and dealing with them can be as amusing as baiting the God botherers

I got that as they said are going to send another form
My point is they already know who lives here.

And it's already compulsory.
I meant compulsory to vote not to fill the form out.

Hmmm sounds like a plan

Oh the God botherers, I love them. A great pass time on Sunday's. It normally results in me pointing out that it is a no cold calling zone and they saying that religion is excluded and me saying that it isn't very Christian of them to go against our wishes and so on. I love them. Especially when I want to keep the magazine but it then turns out they want money for it. Just like those who leave a bag on the door mat for clothes.

At least they aren't wasting tax payers money.

It's govermint bumf - of course it makes NO sense!!! They need us to tell them that they've got the right information about whose living in our houses.

Just like those who leave a bag on the door mat for clothes.
I like those bags. I keep them in my camera bag. They have a whole load of uses. Use once then throw them away (into the recycling, natch!) and pick up the next supply.

If only it were just Sundays.
And if only there weren't usually a couple of suited and booted stepford kids in tow.

I like pointing out the "no callers" signs too :-)

I've grabbed the whole stack off whichever lot it is that sells watch towers and lobbed them straight over the meter cupboard door into the recycling. When they objected, I asked them if they had any preference as to which new obscene phrases they wanted me to teach the children they had brought with them.

Been binning those forms for several years now!!!
They are coming to take you away haha haha ...They cooked your food, they cleaned your house, and this is how you pay them back? They are coming to take you away haha haha :P

Did the send said form recorded delivery? It must be very important if you could be fined £1000.

I'd bin said form and plead ignorance.

Yes. They would have to prove that you received it in order to prove that you ignored it!

Steve.

Actually just sending it is good enough, the reliability is such that legally you can assume it has arrived when you send it.

I had a couple of JH's call the other week, they said we'd like to talk to you,
I said I'll stop you right there, come in and sit down.
I made them tea, offered them biscuits.
Once they had finished their tea and biscuits , I said OK what is it you would like to talk about?

Silence! the older one looked at the younger one, the younger one looked at the older one,
finally the older one piped up,
"f*** knows, we've never got this far before "

:D

IF mail isn't specifically addressed to you, ignore it!

You really haven't engaged your brain on this one, have you?

How many names on the council tax bill?

2
exactly the same names as on the phishing letter they sent
So yes brain fully engaged thank you

Oh the God botherers

I got fed up with them & got fed up hiding & pretending we weren't in. Then a friend, who used to be a JW, told me to say to them, "I wasn't religious, really wasn't interested & please would you remove my address from your calling list". Sorted, they haven't called since. It also worked with the Morons. (sorry Mormons).

They'd wanted all sorts of details so they could restrict our bin usage.

Talking of `bins`.

Have any of you checked for the little transponder/chip on your bin?

I found them when they supplied the variety of coloured bins 4 or 5 years ago. :shifty:

I got a hammer & large screw driver to them straight away! (y)

I would miss my little chat :)
