tune the 1400, do something different, you can gain immense amounts of power...just need to learn how. it need not be mega expensive...talk to the ford tuners in your area, then the bigger named tuners...see what they say
 
If you want a quick car, buy a quick car. You can make your car different looking very easily. New number plates, take the "horrible" trader stickers off the windows, as has been already suggested you could get a set of Ford alloys for it.
