Yes
Just been confirmed by Apple that Snow Leopard (10.6) will be released this coming Friday. After leaks of the packaging, Amazon US making it available to pre-order and even Apple accidentally (?) listing it on their store last week the wait is finally over.

At the moment only confirmed for US but hopefully that will change?

Who's going to upgrade? What are the main benefits going to be for every day users like me (rather than the photoshop/designers?)

Faster, smaller and a completely rewritten Finder. One of the things I'm looking forward to most is the ability to navigate through folders from within a stack!

Plus it's only £25 so why not!

Yup I'll be making the upgrade. Looks like theres a few nice little enhancements in there, although a lot of the improvements are more "back office" that UI.

As jontucker said, for £25 why not

Nice additions that should be good. Ordered mine - family pack for £35 ish. Sensible pricing too.... Microsoft who?!...

Just found the working link in the shop. If you go to apple.com/uk on the homepage it still simply says notify.

Ordered a copy anyway, as you all say for £25, why not? Gave me the chance to get an iPhone dock as well.

don't forget if you recently purchased a mac the upto date program will let you get snow leopard for £7.95! ordered mine from there the other week :D

Oh b****r!!! I thought I bought my system too early for this but it seems I bought it on the day the Up To Date offer was bought in. Now to try and cancel my original order and get it for £7.95!

I'm trying to work out if going to the Apple shop after work or getting it delivered to work would be best, don't want to wait until after the weekend for it, if the delivery is late, but will be so annoyed if the Apple shop has run ot by the time I get there.

For £7.95 it would be silly not to :p

They say it is 64 bit and supports multi cores

Does it allocate different programs to different cores. Example if I open Lightroom, PS CS4, Dreamweaver CS4 and a couple of other bits of software sillultaneously, will they run separatally on thier own cores?

(assuming the software writers havent written multi core functionality into the software yet)

Grand Central Distribution will evenly spread the thread load across all available cores, but it does require that the app is written to work with GCD.

Normally an app will drop its threads on one CPU and run there until it's terminated, unless it's written to do otherwise.

Allocating apps to specific cores is very inefficient, which is why GCD is aimed at getting away from it.

Ordered the family pack last night. Well, I ordered something. On holiday and was a little well oiled

Ordered mine last night, cant go wrong for £25, whats Vista service pack 3 selling for, sorry i mean windows 7:lol:

that seems kinda pointless, if youre going to break the terms os the EULA, you may aswell just download it from a torrent site.

a lot of the hackint0sh guys like to support apple for the software even though they don't want to pay for the hardware.

Just ordered the family pack... busy time installing this on our machines when it arrives I guess.

I'm most excited about the EXCHANGE integration. I use Exchange on all my PC's and have to use crappy Imap on the Imac :D

It's coming with full exchange support, so I can synch Mail, iCal and Address Book with one shared settings and access them all from any Internet Connected PC or Mac.

Pretty win.

Gary.

It's not as complete as you might first hope for, having been using it for some time now, things I don't have but really could do with are

No access to server side rules
No custom forms (a PITA)
Can't set Out of Office from the Mac (another PITA)
Requires EWA to be set up on the Exchange server, no direct connection.
No offline GAL (yet another PITA)

It's neat, but far from perfect, you get about the same feature level as on the iPhone.

Anyone know if Apple are going to include another RAW update with Snow Leopard? Waiting for compatibilty for my Oly E620 RAW files.

Cheers.

Whats the main reason for me going to apple and buying snow leopard for my mac?

Does anyone know if it requires a clean install or will it just update and add to leopard?

just runs as an update (just read engadgets review) it quarantines all non compatible apps and plugins in to an "incompatible software folder".

which is handy to know what you need to wait for updates on etc.

Same here - Friday delivery it is!

It'll upgrade Leopard and you will have 7gb of hard drive space FREED UP!

Somehow they have managed to chop 7gb of stuff out of it...and add more new features :cuckoo:

I'm running it now.. sent me mad last night (literally) as I had a deadline and EOS utility crashed every time I plugged in the camera - eventually found Image Capture worked, but I wasn't a happy bunny! :(
