Possible chance of a 2 or 3 day northerly bringing arctic air starting thursday night/friday
Seems likely from the current models and this is just my interpretation now
Snow to eastern sticky out bits and some showers pushing inland, but more likely to have a warmer sector to the western edge so rain for the western side of england
Just spotted this thread, so it's only right that I'll come out of the closet and step in.
Indeed, it's true that is it going to be a cold week where night frosts will become a regular occurrence as we head into the week, and it'll have a wintry flavour to things as well.
Allow me to do a break-down of this week using my own thoughts and forecasting methods (not at all copied from the usual source - the media).
Tomorrow (Tuesday): A ridge of high pressure will be nosing in from the north east. That will bring cold surface winds in from the continent but warm upper airs aloft will keep things generally dry and quite bright with variable cloud cover over the bulk of the UK.
There MAY be an odd outside chance of some wintry showers teasing the south east as we go thorugh the day.
Wednesday: That area of high pressure will move westwards across the county. That will continue to keep things dry and bright across many parts of England, Wales and Southern Scotland after a frosty start.
However, later on in the day, as this high pressure move towards Ireland, this will allow a band of cloud containing rain with snow over hills to move in from the north to affect Northern Scotland.
At this point, winds will start to pick up as it comes in from the north west.
Thursday: That band of cloud associated with a cold front will sweep quite quickly southwards across the UK as we go through the day. The south will start off as being dry and bright while at the same time sunshine and snow showers will start feeding down in from the north to affect most of Scotland.
The south will become cloudy as we go through the day and by the end of the day rain and sleet will be falling. At the same time snow showers will continue to advance southwards over Scotland and reach the north of England. However, them showers should be at it's heaviest to the east of Scotland and north east England and at it's lightest to the western side.
Turning cold and the wind will make it feel even colder. A widespread frost to the north.
Friday: Cold with snow showers over the north and down along the east of the UK, some of them could well be heavy to the north east. Mainly dry with the best of the sunshine to the south and west of the UK.
Rain, sleet with hill snow may reach the far south west of the UK by the end of the day.
Cold with a widespread frost first thing in the morning. That fresh north wind should ease off during the course of the day.
Weekend: Winds becoming light with wintry showers becoming lighter and more scattered in nature. Remaining cold with a widespread frost.
So there you have it.
Now, while I'm here, I might as well say that I've got my eyes on what could well be a big countrywide cold and snowy event occurring around St Valentine's Day. In other words, winter hasn't finished with us not by a long shot I'm afraid.
You heard it here first.

AND.................after all this doom ITS GOING TO BE FINE...........I get me soft top back............next week, c'mon Ian can I order some good weather![]()
So it seems we basically agree although yours was much more detailed than I could manage, just a learner at all this models business

SHUT UP WILL YA..............we aint gettin no more snow OK.....Blue skies and fluffy white clouds over LINCS.............or else![]()

Thanks for the update Ian
Trouble is Pete he is uncannily accurate 99% of the time![]()

Actually, you got it pretty nailed on and in a much more concise way.
Although I've been a bit of a meteorology nut for as long as I've lived (I'm 42), I will always be a learner in the vast scheme of things.![]()

Ian ........you are soooooooooooooooo wrong,
The sun is gonna shine and we are only going to get rain during night time and temps are going to be seasonally high............geddit![]()
. MUCH more preferable than this overcast gloom we've endured in the past week.
I really am sick of this snow now. We've got about 2-3 inches of it compacted into ice on our road still![]()
Is it my imagination or you're not that keen on the cold and snow?![]()
![]()
Actually, to tell the truth, speaking as a snow lover (just go along with it), I'm not reeeeally getting that excited over this cold spell in any case as it'll only affect at least 20% of the UK (the far north and east) in a notable fashion, and even then snow amounts will be fairly small. I think for your location you may catch an odd snow flurry come Thursday and into Friday - but also plenty of sunshine.
The only real feature is how cold it'll be feeling and ice/frost during the night becomes a more common theme. MUCH more preferable than this overcast gloom we've endured in the past week.
Ian you forcasts are far more accurate than what we get on telly so how much do I have to pay for a good week in Feb say .........03 02 ish for 5 days and dont say owt to the mods, they will organise summat and scupper my plans for a Saab-me reunion.......................shssssssssssssss

(Whispers quietly) . . . If you referring to the first week of February, I think I could arrange for a nice bit of high pressure to sit over the UK for a few days. That should settle and brighten things up for a bit.
I'll private message you with my paypal details.![]()
