Snap Britain!!! Is this another "get lots of pictures for free" sham?

Basically your best bet is to only enter competitions which have been passed by the Pro-imaging Bill of rights for photography competitions, a list of approved competitions can be found here. Competiitions to avoid are here and the Bill of rights conditions can be viewed here

That is an absolutely shocking set of T&C's.

Has anyone wrote to them?

I contacted the editor of the DSLR Photography magazine, who had the following to say -

If you now go onto the Snap Britain site they have put the following on the front page for all to see -

The original T&C's were the standard ones and they have changed them for the purpose of this initiative only!

Result!

I think we as a forum are in quite a powerful position to do something like this.

Maybe if you spot rights grabbing T&C's, I/we can contact them as an entity to tell them how evil and bad they are being?

That's why I started this post to see who else thought the same.

As you say "result!" Next time, and I'm sure there will be, I'll get you to get all of us to attack the evil ones :)

Well done TP. This community obviously has the respect of some powerful people/institutions. Hopefully this is the start of a new respect for the copyright and skill set of the originitating photographer, be they professional or hobbyist.

How about Charlie Waite's Take-a-View Landscape Photographer of the Year?

It's an annual thing and this year's has closed, but there's plenty of time to influence next year's.

Have a look at Clause 16 in the T&C's, especially where it states that any of the British Tourist Authorities may use any entry, for any purpose, free of charge until December 31st next year.

And bear in mind that the entrants have paid for the privelege of potentially having their pics nicked!

Here is a simple solution. Every time one of these competitions is brought to our attention we email/write to the competition organiser to ask that they change the terms. If they fail to do so then collectively we enter the following image.

They might start to get the message when they have a couple of thousand entries like this

Just one more reason not to bother subscribing :shake:

When a photography mag starts taking the pssi out of photographers thats the time to move on.

They are clearly taking advantage of the small print and hoping that no-one bothers

STINKS STINKS STINKS
