How do you guys smooth a models skin so its all an even tone? I've got photoshop cs, elements and light room? Have tried with the healing brush and get so so results but is tyhere a better way?

I use Lightroom.

Open up the Adjustment Brush in the develop module and there's a drop down option for skin smoothing and you can adjust the settings to suit.

Hope that helps :)

In Lightroom you can use the local adjustment brush and put the clarity slider to the negative side and brush this on. The beauty is you can adjust the level of negative clarity if you find your initial setting is incorrect.

The other option is to use Photoshop. Duplicate the background layer, and on this duplicated layer apply Gaussian blur. The exact amount depends on the subject, but don't over do it. Then using a layer mask remove the blur from areas such as the eyes and teeth.

A quick search on the internet will give you a more detailed explanation of the technique

Top tip is to switch on the mask so the smoothed area is highlighted in red. Set A to be a large brush, B a small and the last is erase. That way you can switch between large, small and erase until you've refined the area. Next hide the mask and then adust the slider for desired effect. For serious smoothing (I have a model who needs massive smoothing on stretch marks) I then add in a sharpness adjustment to strengthen the effect & sometimes lower the contrast slightly as well.

In lightroom it is fantastic how all these things can be done on one brush.

Gonna move this to Post Processing for you. You should get more response in there :)

basic way to do it is using a couple of layers and blur of your choice.

top layer blur

middle layer sharpen

rub out areas that you want to keep sharp eyse, lips, hair, etc etc (use a rubber with 45% hardness) then reduce the opacity of the blur layer till its blended nicely and to your requirements

or use a program like portrait proffessional with is pretty good
