Maybe someone can explain to me what i am trying to get here.;)
Ok i have an old nokia pay as you go phone that i throw in the car for emergencies when we go out, nothing fancy about it,it makes calls.:D
Now i have been reading about smart phones & such,so here is what i want to do with it.
I was thinking of looking for a second hand cheapish one for using like photography apps you know what i mean to do long exposures it works out your shutter speed.
That is the kind of thing i would want it for & just phones calls on pay as you go,hope i have explained that ok.:D:LOL:
Also one i can put in a bigger sd card.

As i said i know nothing about these new phones,so i can take the sim out of my old phone & put it in there & still have my same phone number & pay as you go.?

It's likely it will want a micro sim, in theory you might cut your old one down.
Your operator would probably send you one with same number on if it matters.
Since you don't sound like a big user why not get one with PAYG sim included ad new number.
You could keep the old one in car for all those "emergencies" ;)
The setting up part is more or less automated now and it would just ask some basic questions and you're away.

Here we still don't have phone signal but it is kind of useful around the house on wifi like a small tablet.
I have it PAYG with virgin and if I want to use mobile data it's £1 for a day up to 250mb or somethig.
Since I'd rarely use it more than 2 or 3 times month this is fine.
You can often hook on free wifi in towns one way or another (e.g.McDonalds)

Cheers for that,i think i have explained it all,i don,t suppose getting a new phone number would hurt really.
What i really want it for is to use with my dslr with apps suach as long exposure stuff & things like that,i would need to check out how to do that as well.:D

Hi

Before you buy look at which apps you want and which platform they are available on. Depending on your budget you can get unlocked phones from carphone warehouse etc or you could get one and get it unlocked.

Depending on budget have a look at the Moto G range or go for a used Android phone if the app you need is available on Android.

I am looking for the cheapest option i can find,(cheapskate):Dit is just a whim really to mess about with apps for photography like i said.:)

Have a look at a used phone which a decent battery life.

Please can you confirm what apps you want. I have an Android phone and can check if they are available on Android. The phone in the link is a windows based phone.

That one is on Microsoft - apps will be much more limited.
You'll almost certainly want an Android Phone.
Your second link seems a reasonable choice - and is on Android
Once you download an app from the google (play) store, whether paid or free you can download it again whenever you like.
That sounds good then, one app i really want is the ND exposure calculator one if that,s what you call it,i set my 6d up today for the wifi.:)

Exactly what i have just been looking through on the app store, once i get my phone i can get them.
I already have a voda number as i have a cheap payg phone just now anyway.:)

Cool, as long as you are sticking with voda go for the Sony or any suitable Android phone.

That,s the one, just have to break it gently to the wife now.

Changed my mind on buying this just now.:)

Lol.. See what comes up on black Friday...

I bought a Huawei Android phone from Sainsbury's as a smaller alternative to a tablet. Use it as a remote release for cameras that support that function as well as mirroring a few other apps on the tablet. £40 or so IIRC.

Just bought the Sony experia E4 from Argos, looks quite a nice phone.:)

Well after setting up the camera wifi & pairing it with the new mobile it seems to work great using the EOS remote app i dowloaded.
Just need to get the ND exposure one now & i think i am very happy with the phone.

In google play when i am trying to get an app after i click install it says it will soon be installed on your device, but i don,t see them.
Just to clarify the best way of doing this, connect my phone to pc usb?,not sure on a lot of this yet.:):D

Got it sussed i think.:D

Apps are installed from the play store via wifi, you don't have to plug it to a pc.

Cheers kev,i think i got it now,got some good apps now for the canon 6D:)
